Turning LDS Support On
Tick Enable LDS Support on the General tab of Tools > Preferences. It can be turned on or off at any time. The features below appear only while it is on.
Recording Ordinances
With LDS support on, these ordinances can be added and edited on the FactsFacts are one of the key concepts at the heart of Family Historian; they are how you record the things that happened to, or described, each ancestor (Individual). tab of the Property BoxThe Property Box is the primary window for data entry and for viewing details of stored records. It is used with records of all types. , like any other fact:
- LDS Baptism
- LDS Confirmation
- LDS Endowment
- LDS Initiatory
- LDS Seal to Parents
- LDS Seal to Spouse
As well as the usual dateWhen an Event happened, or an Attrribute was true., placeAccording to GEDCOM, a Place should hold "The jurisdictional name of the place where the event took place…" and note, each ordinance has fields for the temple and the ordinance status.
Reports
The LDS OrdinancesLDS Ordinances These are a special class of standard GEDCOM facts associated with the Church of the Latter Day Saints. They are only managed on the All Tab of the Property Box for an Individual and cannot be customised. • report lists ordinance details. Almost all other reports, including the narrative reports, can include ordinances too; whether they do is set on the main tab of the report’s options.
Queries
There is a standard LDS Ordinances query. For your own fact queries, the Common FunctionsA 'function' is an expression which returns values based on computations. Typically, functions require data to be supplied to them as 'parameters'. A function in Family Historian is similar to a 'function' as used in spreadsheet applications (such as MS list on the Columns tab of the Query Window has four extra LDS items while LDS support is on. See An Overview of Queries in Version 8 for how queries work.
FamilySearch
With LDS support on, the FamilySearch Window has an Ordinances tab showing the ordinance information FamilySearch holds for the selected person. It can be copied to the matching person in your project. The Reserve Ordinances button opens a web page, in your browser, for reserving ordinances and temple work for that person.
