Simple Citations is an approach to citing genealogical sources that is designed to make life easier for family historians. The cardinal rule for creating any family history is to always cite where each piece of information came from. Doing so should make life as easy as possible and to minimize the decision-making process. Additionally, the role of citations is to not only fully document every family tree but, perhaps more importantly, allow others the greatest possible opportunities to locate each source again.
Simple Citations was originally created for my (Jeff La Marca) own use with RootsMagic, more than ten years ago. Family Historian 7 now permits the use of templates and the Simple Citations templates have now been adapted to take advantage of data entry features only found in FH. Simple Citations contains only three templates (actually, these are subsets of a single template) – census, traditional, and non-traditional. Users should be able to document essentially everything with very little effort. A complete discussion of Simple Citations may be found here: SimpleCitations.com
