If the file is in ANSEL format when it is loaded into early versions of Family Historian the accent characters are discarded.
One way to fix the GEDCOMGEDCOM, an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication, is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogy software. It is a file format that most genealogical programs and online trees recognise. file prior to using the Family Historian is to use PSPAD as below.
Open the file and edit the header line from
1 CHAR ANSEL
to
1 CHAR ANSI
Then use PSPAD (or other plain text editor) as follows:
- Select All the text (either press CTRL-A or use the Edit/Select All menu option).
- From the menu select Edit/Special Conversion/Add Accent Marks.
- Save the file.
