About Family Historian Plugins

Introduction

Plugins were introduced with Family Historian Version 5 and allow new features to be added without upgrading Family Historian itself. Some Plugins originate from Calico Pie Limited, but most are written by registered FHUG members. They are free but unsupported, so use them at your own risk, and keep regular backups of your data files in order to recover from any mishaps.

Plugins allow users to create scripts written in Lua to automate many tasks within Family Historian including:

  • Advanced data analysis.
  • Creating and updating data.
  • Importing/Exporting data from/to other resources, such as CSV files or genealogy websites.
  • Data validation and correction (e.g. correct UDF data).

Published Plugins are available from the Family Historian Plugin Store. New Plugins, and those being worked on, can be found in the Work in Progress section here, and in the Plugin Discussions Forum. If you need help with writing a Plugin, or would like someone to help you by writing one, just ask in the Plugin Discussions Forum.
