web publication in family tree format

Post by BARRYLENK »

I am new to Family Historian6. I completed a family tree and printed it in a tree format. However, when I went to publish the tree as a website, all I can get is an index with a list of names that can be referenced individually, getting only a few direct relatives. I would like to generate a web site in the same tree format that I printed. I am also technologically challenged, so the simpler the answer, the more helpful. I am using Windows 10, although I had the same problem before upgrading.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Welcome to the FHUG Barry.

Unfortunately, the FH Create a Website wizard does not offer fully interactive Diagram trees.
What it does offer is the ability to include a static copy of any Diagram like the one that you printed.
At Step 4 – Add Items for Table of Contents you can include any image file, such as a Diagram saved in JPEG format.
i.e. With the Diagram displayed use Diagram > Save Diagram As > JPEG File (.jpg)
Then in the wizard Step 4 use the Picture Image option and <<Select that saved Diagram JPEG file.
See how_to:make_family_tree:step_4_add_items_for_table_of_contents|> Family Tree Wizard ~ Step 4 – Add Items for Table of Contents for details.
If you need more detailed advice then please ask.

BTW: In our Wish List there are two related entries that you can Vote for:
Ref 246 Family Tree Diagrams in CD/DVD/Website pages
Ref 516 How Related Diagram on each CD/DVD/Webpage

Another option you might like to consider involves uploading your Project GEDCOM file to an online tree builder.
Ancestry, FindMyPast & ZoomPast each offer a FREE online tree diagram building tool with free webspace.
You do NOT have to subscribe to any of them to use their tool.
If you are interested in this alternative then please ask for details.

If you have very large diagram a good option is to use the Save As PDF option and add the PDF to your web site as a file using the same page Mike suggested.
