Creating a book

Post by Kolbeck »

My first post so will keep it short. I have recently moved over to Family Historian in the last couple of weeks, so still getting use to things. I was previously using myHeritage, the only bit of which shall miss is giving access to members of the family. At the moment I am looking at using the create a book function to create a sharable document either electronic or hard copy. I have Simon Orde's book but am still struggling a little with formatting. Is there other sources of help with this?

Welcome to the FHUG.

You could still share with other family members online as you did with MyHeritage.
A free MyHeritage account is limited to a tree with a few hundred persons, but Ancestry, FindMyPast, and ZoomPast offer unlimited size trees with free accounts. There are export tools for all those products.

I suspect formatting in your Book is probably more to do with formatting the component Diagrams and Reports.
So I suggest you master those independently first, and then build them into the Book.
To start with see how_to:index#manipulating_diagrams|> Manipulating Diagrams and how_to:index#publishing_reports|> Publishing Reports.

As a newcomer I advise you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and follow its links into other [kb]|[/kb] topics.

Thanks for the feedback, I did not know about lodging the family trees on the other sites. I am enjoying Family historian and the forum is a bonus. Thank you
