What's New

Over the last couple of months there have been a few announcements at the "Family Historian User Group" which you may have missed if you don't visit regularly.  The first is there have been a couple of minor releases of Family Historian mainly to improve The Master Genealogist import in light of the announcement of TMG being discontinued.

If you have V5 you can download the latest version (5.0.11) from the latest new version page, you won't yet get it via the automatic update as it's not being pushed by Calico at the moment.

Beta Testing

Would you like to take part in testing the next version of Family Historian? If you currently have version 5 and have the time and enthusiasm to help make sure the next version is the best it can be, you can apply to Calico for a place on the team. There is no reward other than the chance to see the next version early, and the satisfaction of knowing you helped make the program better for all its users. See Beta Testing on the Family Historian website for more information.

Ancestral Sources 4

If you have not already spotted it Ancestral Sources 4 was released back in April and now includes burial/cremation records and death certificates. This is in addition to support for census, baptism and marriages sources that were already available in the previous version.  You can read more at Ancestral Sources v4.0.1 now available.

Events

I have just opened booking for two new courses at my normal venue of Dillington House in Somerset,  they are "Using Family Historian" and "Customising Family Historian", these will be broadly similar to the previous courses,  but feedback suggested the old names were slightly confusing.   Over the last 3 years I have been delighted to have people travel from all over the UK to come on my courses, from as far afield as Scotland and North Wales,  but for the November course, my first booking was all the way from Australia!   If you would like to come please don't leave it too long the courses have limited numbers and regularly sell out.

Further on into next year there are a couple special events which you might like to add to your diaries.

The first is the Who Do You Think You Are show, being held in Birmingham at the NEC for the first time, from the 16th - 18th April.  If all goes to plan I will be at the show on the Calico Pie stand most days.

The second is the Unlock The Past Cruise to the Baltic from Southampton, which I am delighted to be going on and offering lectures on Family Historian on most Sea Days.  The one I went to in February of this year was a great trip and I would highly recommend the experience,  and the 8th cruise promises to be a great one as it's on the luxury Celebrity Eclipse a ship I have thoroughly enjoyed sailing on in the past.
