{"id":9764,"date":"2020-06-13T15:42:56","date_gmt":"2020-06-13T15:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/?post_type=kb_article&#038;p=9764"},"modified":"2024-02-22T13:56:45","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T13:56:45","slug":"occupation","status":"publish","type":"kb_article","link":"https:\/\/www.fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/occupation\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p>An Occupation fact can contain all the standard fields for an attribute; normally it will contain the title or description of a person&#8217;s employment.<\/p>\n<p>Occupations can be managed via the <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/work-with-data\/\">Work With Data<\/a> Tool.<\/p>\n<p>As with Places it is a good idea to standardise occupations, where possible.<\/p>\n<p>So for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ag Lab<\/li>\n<li>Agri Labourer<\/li>\n<li>etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The occupation fact should be recorded as Agricultural Labourer if you &#8216;standardise&#8217; your records.<\/p>\n<p>However, some people prefer to record exactly what is shown on the original record rather than &#8216;standardising&#8217; the data, this does lead to multiple definitions for the same actual occupation.
