For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quick access to the prime members of your tree<\/li>\n<li>Research\/To Do List of Actions for a Repository<\/li>\n<li>List of data requiring review<\/li>\n<li>List of &#8216;on order&#8217; information<\/li>\n<li class=\"level1\">List of people to delete from your tree<\/li>\n<li>List of Sources which need scans added<\/li>\n<li>List of Pictures, which need editing or re-scanning<\/li>\n<li>Marking individuals to display in a diagram\/display in a particular way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Named Lists and Record Flags have some uses in common, as you can see from the chapter on Named Lists and Record Flags in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/family-historian-documentation\/\">&#8220;Getting the Most from Family Historian&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/em>However, as explained below,\u00a0Named Lists\u00a0have many more features than\u00a0Record Flags.<\/p>\n<h2>Using Named Lists<\/h2>\n<p>To view or hide Named Lists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use\u00a0 <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">View&nbsp&gt;&nbspNamed&nbspLists<\/a> and select a Named List; or<\/li>\n<li>Open the <em>Records Window<\/em> and use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Lists&nbsp&gt;&nbspNew&nbspNamed&nbspList<\/a> command, or right-click an empty part of the <em>Named List Pane<\/em> and choose <em>New List&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Once you have created a Named List, right-click on its name and you will see more options.<\/p>\n<h3>Adding Records to a List<\/h3>\n<h4>Manually<\/h4>\n<p>In the\u00a0<em>Records Window<\/em> select both the desired records and the named list, then:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Edit&nbsp&gt;&nbspDelete<\/a>, and take heed of the warning message.<\/p>\n<p>To remove all the Records, select the list name in the <em>Named List Pane<\/em> and use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Lists&nbsp&gt;&nbspEmpty&nbspNamed&nbspList<\/a>, or right-click the list name and choose the Empty List option, but there is no warning message.<\/p>\n<h4>Using a Query<\/h4>\n<p>In the\u00a0Result Set\u00a0tab, use the\u00a0Query Menu <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cs_v alignnone lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/helpv6\/propertyboxfactstab_13.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"41\" height=\"30\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 41px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 41\/30;\" \/>&gt; Remove Row Records from Named List\u00a0to remove all the records found by the query.<\/p>\n<h3>Tips and Tricks<\/h3>\n<h4>Record Notes Pane<\/h4>\n<p>The unlabeled pane below the Records list allows notes to be added to each record that only apply to the list. For example, they can be used to explain why the record is in the list.<\/p>\n<p>The size of this notes pane and the two panes above can be adjusted by left-click &amp; drag on the horizontal and vertical borders of the panes.<\/p>\n<h4>List Properties<\/h4>\n<p>Select a Named List and use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Lists&nbsp&gt;&nbspNamed&nbspLists&nbspProperties<\/a> or right-click and choose List Properties to see its details.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0List Name\u00a0may be as long and as descriptive as you like.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0List Note\u00a0can explain the purpose of the list in greater detail.<\/p>\n<p>For a more visible explanation of purpose, add a dedicated\u00a0Note\u00a0record to the top of the\u00a0Named List, and in its note pane at the bottom add a detailed description.<\/p>\n<h4>Keep Current List Order<\/h4>\n<p>To retain the records in a Named List in a particular order, select the list and use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Lists<\/a>\u00a0 or right-click and choose Keep Current List Order.<\/p>\n<p>The records can be rearranged at any time by clicking on column headings, but when the list is opened again the records will return to the preserved order.<\/p>\n<h2>Named List Report<\/h2>\n<p>Use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Publish&nbsp&gt;&nbspMiscellaneous&nbspReports&nbsp&gt;&nbspList&nbspReport<\/a> and choose the Named List required. This only lists the Record Names &amp; Record Id, plus their list Notes if any, but not any Configured Columns. To include all such columns see how to <a class=\"wikilink1\" title=\"how_to:customising_record_window_columns\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fhug.org.uk\/wiki\/doku.php?id=how_to:customising_record_window_columns\">Customise or Print Records Window Columns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Using a List in a Query<\/h2>\n<p>In a\u00a0<em>Query Window<\/em>\u00a0on the\u00a0<em>Rows\u00a0<\/em>tab use the\u00a0<em>List\u00a0<\/em>tab, or use the\u00a0<code>=IsInList()<\/code>\u00a0function.<\/p>\n<h2>Using a List in a Diagram<\/h2>\n<p>In a\u00a0<em>Diagram Window<\/em>\u00a0open the\u00a0Options\u00a0and on the\u00a0<em>Text\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>Boxes\u00a0<\/em>tab use the\u00a0<code>=IsInList()<\/code>\u00a0function in conditional expressions.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/using-named-lists-animated-tutorial\/\">Using Named Lists to Mark a Diagram (Animated Tutorial)<\/a> for more detail.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"deleting_a_list\" class=\"sectionedit10\">Deleting a List<\/h2>\n<div class=\"level2\">\n<p>There are various methods to delete any list via the <em>Named List Pane<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right-click the list name and choose the\u00a0Delete List\u00a0option<\/li>\n<li>Select the list name and use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows.
