The installation and upgrade information on the Family Historian website<\/a> is the place to go for definitive information on installing and upgrading \u0192h<\/span><\/span> as the program authors have a complete guide that answers the majority of the questions.<\/p>\n

In the simple case of an upgrade on the same PC, just install \u0192h<\/span><\/span> over the existing version. All your Project data and customisations should be inherited automatically by the new \u0192h<\/span><\/span> version. However, it is always worthwhile performing a full backup of your data on your PC if you have backup software and also use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings<\/a> or Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings via Windows<\/a> to store all the \u0192h<\/span><\/span> configuration settings.<\/p>\n

Think about where you will store your FH data<\/h3>\n

Once you install Family Historian (\u0192h<\/span><\/span>) it will create a Family Historian Projects Folder<\/em> in your Documents Folder<\/em>. This is a sensible default for your information as it should be a folder that you backup on a regular basis anyway.<\/p>\n

However, if you want to change the location you can do so by clicking on the Project Location<\/em> link at the base of the Project Window and selecting the folder you want to use instead.<\/p>\n
