{"id":9181,"date":"2020-05-31T14:39:37","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T14:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/?post_type=kb_article&#038;p=9181"},"modified":"2021-01-30T18:59:40","modified_gmt":"2021-01-30T18:59:40","slug":"display-long-text-such-as-notes","status":"publish","type":"kb_article","link":"https:\/\/www.fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/display-long-text-such-as-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"Display long text such as Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p>In a <em>Query Column<\/em> or <em>Records Window Column<\/em> any long text such as Note fields and Text From Source fields are truncated at about 150 characters with an ellipsis \u2026<\/p>\n<p>This workaround will display the full text.<\/p>\n<h2>Details<\/h2>\n<p>In the Column Expression use the <code>=GetParagraph(%INDI.NOTE2%,1)<\/code> function, because it does NOT truncate the text.<\/p>\n<p>To allow for the possibility of multiple paragraphs, several such functions can be joined together:<\/p>\n<p><code>=Text( GetParagraph(%INDI.NOTE2%,1) . \" \" . GetParagraph(%INDI.NOTE2%,2) . \" \" .
