Everything stays on the phone; nothing is uploaded anywhere else.<\/p>\n<h2>Availability<\/h2>\n<p>At the launch of <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>8 the Android app can be downloaded from the Family Historian website (it is not yet in the Play Store) and is in a formal beta, with feedback welcome. An iPhone version is in development. Calico Pie&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/fh-mobile\">Family Historian Mobile<\/a> page has the current position. Exporting a project to the app needs the full version of <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>8 (or the 30-day trial); the free edition can&#8217;t do it.<\/p>\n<h2>What It Shows<\/h2>\n<p>The app is built around people. Open anyone to see their facts, relationships, sources, notes and pictures, or their places on a map; move around an interactive pedigree and descendant tree; search as you type. It supports the Version 8 data types, Address records included, and rich-text notes with tables and hyperlinks, and it copes with trees of thousands of people.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing It on Android<\/h2>\n<p>Open the Family Historian Mobile page on the phone and tap the link to the app file (an APK). Android will warn that it comes from outside the Play Store: allow installs from that source for the app you are using (Chrome or Files, say), then tap <em>Install<\/em>, and <em>Install anyway<\/em> if Play Protect objects. Calico Pie recommend switching <em>Allow from this source<\/em> off again afterwards.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting Your Project onto the Phone<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>In <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>8 choose <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">File&nbsp&gt;&nbspExport&nbspto&nbspFamily&nbspHistorian&nbspMobile<\/a>; the defaults are usually fine. This makes a compact Gedzip (<code>.gdz<\/code>) file which, unlike a plain GEDCOM file, includes your pictures, scaled down to suit a phone.<\/li>\n<li>Get the file onto the phone. A cloud drive such as OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox is the easiest way (for OneDrive, the phone app must be signed in to the same account as the PC). Emailing it to yourself also works.<\/li>\n<li>In the app, tap <em>Import a File<\/em> and find it. If it is not there, the cloud drive may not have finished syncing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The first load of a large tree takes a while; after that it is cached.
