Videos that refer to those new features are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/ancestral-sources-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ancestral Sources Videos<\/a> page. However, the fundamental concepts of capturing the data are still reasonably relevant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the tutorial the notation \u2018Option1\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Option2\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Option3\u00a0button\u2019 means select menubar\u00a0Option1, then\u00a0Option2, and finally click the\u00a0Option3\u00a0button.<\/p>\n<p>It is feasible to copy &amp; paste many of the data values from the tutorial scripts directly into\u00a0Ancestral Sources\u00a0input forms.<\/p>\n<p>Before you proceed with the rest of this tutorial, please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/ancestral-sources-tutorial-configure-initial-settings\/\">Configure Initial Settings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>1. Enter Marriage Information<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>It is assumed that you have obtained a\u00a0Marriage Certificate\u00a0as part of your family history research, and want to enter its details into\u00a0Family Historian\u00a0by using\u00a0Ancestral Sources.<\/p>\n<p>A transcript of a Marriage Certificate (which is entirely fictitious) is shown below.<\/p>\n<p><code>1897 Marriage at Parish Church in Newton in the County of Surrey<\/code><br \/>\n<code>No.23 June 7th 1897<\/code><br \/>\n<code>Rupert Childs age 19, Bachelor, Clerk, 12 Wood Street, father Norman Childs, Joiner<\/code><br \/>\n<code>Janet Hodges age 18, Spinster, Milkmaid, Hodges Farm, father Arthur Hodges, Farmer<\/code><br \/>\n<code>Married in the Church after Banns by A. Williams, Curate<\/code><br \/>\n<code>Marriage between Rupert Childs &amp; Janet B Hodges in the presence of Jack Smith &amp; Jill Smith<\/code><\/p>\n<h3>Marriage Data Entry Screen<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The marriage data entry starts here, and this first section completes the Main Info tab in the centre of the window.<\/li>\n<li>The rest of this tutorial, up until the data is saved to file, must be completed in one session, otherwise all the data will need to be re-entered.<\/li>\n<li>Open\u00a0Ancestral Sources\u00a0and ensure the\u00a0Family Historian Sample Project\u00a0or the\u00a0Sample.ged\u00a0file opens by default, but if not then\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/ancestral-sources-tutorial-configure-initial-settings\/\">Configure Initial Settings<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Notice that the members of the sample\u00a0Munro\u00a0family tree are listed in the top right-hand panel.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that the\u00a0Marriage Records\u00a0mode is active by clicking the\u00a0Create marriage entries\u00a0button near the middle of the toolbar, or by choosing\u00a0View\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Marriage Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Main Information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure that the Main Info tab is selected.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Church Parish\u00a0from the transcript should be entered into the\u00a0Place\u00a0field, and the\u00a0Church Address\u00a0into the\u00a0Address\u00a0field (e.g.\u00a0Place: Newton, Surrey, England\u00a0and\u00a0Address: Parish Church).<\/li>\n<li>These will become the\u00a0Place\u00a0and\u00a0Address\u00a0values used in the\u00a0Marriage Event\u00a0and other\u00a0Facts\u00a0created by\u00a0Ancestral Sources.<\/li>\n<li>If there are matching\u00a0Place\u00a0or\u00a0Address\u00a0values in your GEDCOM data, then these fields will auto-complete, and\u00a0Address\u00a0values will be available from a drop-down list, depending on the check box to the right.<\/li>\n<li>From the transcript, enter the\u00a0Marriage Date\u00a0as\u00a07 June 1897.<\/li>\n<li>To choose the groom in the marriage transcript, enter the start of his surname (Chi) into the\u00a0Find Name\u00a0box above the family names, and select\u00a0Rupert\u00a0from the list. Ancestral Sources may offer this in a dropdown list from existing facts. Then enter the\u00a0Spouse Occupation\u00a0of the bride as\u00a0Milkmaid.<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, select the\u00a0Marriage Type\u00a0of\u00a0After Banns\u00a0from the dropdown list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>2. A. Edit Auto Text and Note<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>The next two areas below the tabs are the\u00a0Text\u00a0and\u00a0Note\u00a0boxes, which define multi-line text for the\u00a0Text From Source\u00a0and\u00a0Note\u00a0fields of the\u00a0Source Record.<\/p>\n<h3>Auto Text Transcript<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To create an automatic transcript of the\u00a0Marriage, click the\u00a0Auto\u00a0button, or use\u00a0Edit\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Auto Text, and select the\u00a0Marriage Certificate 1837- (England\/Wales)\u00a0option.<\/li>\n<li>Note how all the data entered so far is reproduced automatically, and that other options are available to produce different transcript layouts.<\/li>\n<li>The ticked\u00a0Auto\u00a0option allows any further changes made to the data to be automatically updated in the\u00a0Text\u00a0box, unless the text has been manually edited.<\/li>\n<li>To edit the text, click the\u00a0Text\u00a0link to obtain a large editing window. See the menubar\u00a0Tools\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Autotext Template Editor\u00a0options and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/ancestral-sources-tutorial-working-with-templates\/\">Auto Text Templates<\/a>\u00a0tutorial for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Source Note<\/h3>\n<p>The Note box can be similarly edited via the Note link, and possibly should say Fictitious tutorial data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source Citation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To set citation options, use Tools &gt; Options\u2026 &gt; Marriage settings.<\/li>\n<li>Under\u00a0Sources\u00a0in the centre, tick both the\u00a0Citation Certainty\u00a0and the\u00a0Use Citation Entry Date\u00a0options, and then click\u00a0OK.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>6. This image file should appear in the image panel on the left.<\/li>\n<li>There are several options for specifying the Image Title and the Linked Filename of the Multimedia Record.\n<ul>\n<li>One option, beyond the scope of this tutorial, allows the Image Title to be customised by a template that compiles data from a variety of sources. See the menubar\u00a0Tools\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Options\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Census settings\u00a0&gt;\u00a0Census Image Title Template\u00a0option and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/ancestral-sources-tutorial-working-with-templates\/\">Title &amp; Type Templates<\/a>\u00a0tutorial for details.<\/li>\n<li>For this tutorial select\u00a0Same as source title\u00a0and tick\u00a0Rename file to match title, which neatly assigns the same\u00a0Title\u00a0to the\u00a0Multimedia Record\u00a0and\u00a0Image Filename\u00a0as the\u00a0Source Record.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the Keywords box select Document as well as Picture.<\/li>\n<li>Now click the Save button at the bottom.<\/li>\n<li>If using Family Historian Version 4.1 (or later) there may be a prompt to choose the Media folder into which to eventually copy the image file. Click the Yes button, and in the popup click New Folder, create a Marriage folder, and click OK.
