Introduction<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Ancestral Sources\u00a0tutorials require the following settings to be established in order to operate correctly.<\/p>\n

However, the settings only need to be configured once before undertaking a series of tutorials.<\/p>\n

Note that all Options<\/a>, Templates<\/a>, and Tools<\/a> settings apply equally to all Projects, but they can be different in each Windows User Account.<\/p>\n

This page is based on very old versions of Family Historian and Ancestral Sources so does not cover some of the features that are now available such as templated sources and rich-text. Videos that refer to those new features are available on the Ancestral Sources Videos<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

Reset Family Historian<\/h2>\n

\"\"Family Historian Version 4.1\u00a0(or later) needs its\u00a0Family\u00a0Historian Sample Project\u00a0to be reset to its installation state.<\/p>\n

Select File > Project Window\u2026<\/a>, then select More Tasks\u2026<\/em> button, Samples, Reset Sample\u00a0Project<\/em>, and answer Yes or OK to all prompts.<\/p>\n

Close\u00a0Family Historian, and if it prompts to create a\u00a0Backup, choose the\u00a0Skip\u00a0button option.<\/p>\n

Reset Ancestral Sources<\/h2>\n

Ancestral Sources\u00a0must have its original installation settings.<\/p>\n

Before resetting\u00a0Ancestral Sources\u00a0it is important to preserve your custom settings, by using\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Backup A.S. Options\u2026.
\nThese can be restored later using\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Restore A.S. Options\u2026.<\/p>\n

To reset\u00a0Ancestral Sources, use\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Options\u2026\u00a0>\u00a0Reset\u00a0button, select\u00a0Reset to original installation settings, and click\u00a0OK\u00a0twice.<\/p>\n

This not only resets all\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Options\u2026\u00a0settings, but also\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Customise\u00a0Fonts, every\u00a0Tools\u00a0>\u00a0Flag Assignment\u2026, and all\u00a0Census\u00a0>\u00a0Census\u00a0Flag Settings\u2026.<\/p>\n

Click the\u00a0Open\u00a0button on the left of the toolbar, and select either the\u00a0Family Historian Sample Project\u00a0or the\u00a0Sample.ged\u00a0file created above.<\/p>\n

Then use\u00a0File\u00a0>\u00a0Make Current Project\/File Default\u00a0to ensure this database is chosen if\u00a0Ancestral Sources\u00a0is closed and opened.<\/p>\n
