If the file is in ANSEL format when it is loaded into early versions of Family Historian the accent characters are discarded.<\/p>\n

One way to fix the GEDCOM file prior to using the Family Historian is to use PSPAD as below.<\/p>\n

Open the file and edit the header line from<\/p>\n

1 CHAR ANSEL
\nto
\n1 CHAR ANSI<\/p>\n

Then use PSPAD (or other plain text editor) as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Select All the text (either press CTRL-A or use the Edit\/Select All menu option).<\/li>\n
  2. From the menu select Edit\/Special Conversion\/Add Accent Marks.<\/li>\n
  3.
