Remember that with a\u00a0Diagram\u00a0open pressing the\u00a0F1\u00a0key, or clicking the\u00a0Help\u00a0button in sub-windows, gives detailed advice. Also work through the tutorials on\u00a0Diagrams\u00a0in the\u00a0Family Historian Documentation.<\/p>\n<p>Be aware, Options settings for all Diagrams are shared by all Projects via the Family\u00a0Historian Program Data Folder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Zoom In and Out<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>Instead of clicking on the + Zoom In and &#8211; Zoom Out buttons, you can use the keyboard number pad + and &#8211; keys, or CTRL+L and CTRL+K, or hold the CTRLkey whilst rolling the mouse wheel.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#keyboardandmouseshortcuts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts<\/a> for other shortcuts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>DPI<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p><glwrap>If you use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">&nbspDiagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspSave&nbspAs<\/a> to save an image of your diagram, it is likely to be saved with the dpi of your computer screen. This is most commonly 96 dpi. Even if you have a high-resolution screen, you may have set <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> to use a Compatibility mode because the menus and icons are too small. In this case <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> also thinks it is on a 96 dpi screen.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, common advice is that you should use 300 dpi for printing.<\/p>\n<p>The dpi is equal to the number of pixels in the either dimension divided by the corresponding printed width or height in inches. Normally the dpi is the same for both dimensions, but it can be different. So if your screen is 96 dpi, and the diagram is actual size, the saved image will be 96 dpi. You can get more resolution by zooming in.<\/p>\n<p>If you want a resolution of 300 dpi in the saved image, set the\u00a0Zoom Level\u00a0to 313% (= 100 * 300 \/ 96), etc.<\/p>\n<p>You can check the resolution by getting the pixel dimensions of the image after it is saved. Divide the pixels in either dimension by the corresponding Width or Height given in the Dialog Statistics (or by what you would like it to be).<\/p>\n<p><\/glwrap><\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Text Boxes<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>These can display much more than just plain text. Use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspInsert&nbspinto&nbspDiagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspText&nbspBox<\/a>, draw the box, and check the Help on each tab. The Text tab supports Expressions comprising Data References and Functions to create complex context dependent text. The Data tab can condition the context for <code>%INDI%<\/code> on the Text tab.<\/p>\n<p>The February 2016 Forum posting <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/forum\/viewtopic.php?&t=13391\">Customising diagram end of branch siblings<\/a> gives an example.<\/p>\n<p>If no text is shown by a\u00a0Text Box\u00a0then drag its handles to make it bigger!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Blank Diagram<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>Use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">View&nbsp&gt;&nbspStandard&nbspDiagram&nbspTypes&nbsp&gt;&nbspBlank&nbspDiagram<\/a>, then <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspInsert&nbspinto&nbspDiagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspText&nbspBox&nbsp&amp;\/or&nbspPicture<\/a> offers many of the basic features of a word-processor for composing free format pages for a Book as explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/creating-a-book\/\">Creating a Book<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Save Diagram As<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>Using <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspSave&nbspDiagram&nbspAs&#8230;<\/a> you can save as a PDF or a variety of image formats.<\/p>\n<p>Saving as a PDF is covered in detail at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/single-pdf-page-of-a-diagram\/\">Single Page PDF of a Diagram<\/a>. Problems may arise if the diagram is too large, and how to handle this case is discussed in detail there.<\/p>\n<p>Problems may also arise when saving as an image if the diagram is too large or the scale is too large. EMF files are discussed below in Enhanced\/Placeable Metafile. There are other, perhaps better, ways to get around this, described in <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/saving-medium-or-large-diagrams\/\">Saving Medium or Large Diagrams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Enhanced\/Placeable Metafile<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>These file types are associated with the following commands:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspCopy&nbspDiagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspEnhanced&nbspMetafile<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspSave&nbspDiagram&nbspAs&nbsp&gt;&nbspEnhanced&nbspMetafile&nbsp(.emf)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspSave&nbspDiagram&nbspAs&nbsp&gt;&nbspPlaceable&nbspMetafile&nbsp(.wmf)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When an Enhanced\/Placeable Metafile is pasted or inserted into a Word document it is OK, but for other products such as OpenOffice Writer or LibreOffice Writer some features may be grey or completely blank. This affects boxes with Box Shape set to Rectangle or Rounded Corners and .wmf files.<\/p>\n<p>A workaround for\u00a0Box Shape: Rectangle\u00a0is\u00a0Bevelled Corners\u00a0with\u00a0Corner Size: 0&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>If the\u00a0.emf\u00a0or\u00a0.wmf\u00a0file is opened in\u00a0IrfanView\u00a0and saved without change as an\u00a0Enhanced Metafile (.emf)\u00a0then that file inserts into those other products OK.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><h3>Black and White Output<\/h3><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\"><p>If saved or printed\u00a0Diagrams\u00a0have unexpected black-and-white or coloured parts then review these settings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Diagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspCopy&nbspDiagram&nbsp&gt;&nbspText&nbspand&nbspLines&nbspin&nbspBlack-and-White<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows.
