Remember that with a\u00a0Report\u00a0open pressing the\u00a0F1\u00a0key, or clicking the\u00a0Help\u00a0button in sub-windows, gives detailed advice. Also work through the tutorials on\u00a0Reports\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/family-historian-documentation\/\">Family Historian Documentation.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Report Content and Style<\/h2>\n<p>The summary of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/standard-report-types\/\">Standard Report Types<\/a>\u00a0describes their characteristics and <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/report-content-media-format-and-layout\/\">Report Content, Media, Format and Layout<\/a> describes how to customise popular settings.<\/p>\n<p>Use the <glwrap>Family Historian Sample Project<\/glwrap> to obtain typical examples of each report type.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional Customisation Tips<\/h2>\n<glwrap>In the popular reports involving Individuals and Families, the way Facts are displayed is affected by the Tools &gt; Fact Types Edit button definitions for each Fact.<\/glwrap>\n<ul>\n<li>To show Record ID, add <code>=[RecordID()]<\/code> via Format tab Heading &gt; Record &gt; Edit &gt; Heading Text, or in the\u00a0Contents\u00a0tab\u00a0Main Section Items\u00a0select\u00a0Record Id\u00a0and\u00a0Edit\u00a0to\u00a0Show if not empty<\/li>\n<li>Tabulated reports, such as the <glwrap><\/glwrap>Individual Summary Report and Family Group Sheet,[\\glossary-ignore] show Fact names as defined by the Tools &gt; Fact Types &gt; Edit setting for the Label of each Fact. Those settings also affect the names of Facts shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#propertyboxfactstab.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Property Box Dialogue: Individuals: Facts Tab<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#recordswindow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Records Window<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Narrative\u00a0reports show Fact sentences as defined by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/kb-article\/narrative-report-fact-sentence-templates\/\">Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates<\/a>. These can be extensively customised, but sometimes require advanced techniques.\n<ul>\n<li>To make the unbroken paragraphs more readable, insert the Formatting Codes for New Line (<code>&lt;br&gt;)<\/code> or New Paragraph (<code>&lt;para&gt;<\/code>) at the start or end of some Fact Sentence Templates.<\/li>\n<li>To insert natural language components into a Fact sentence, insert the Note (<code>{note}<\/code>) code into the Sentence Template, and enter the desired wording into the Note box of the chosen Fact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Indented reports Ancestor Outline and Descendant Outline show Fact names as defined by the Tools &gt; Fact Types &gt; Edit setting for the Abbreviation of each Fact (or if blank then the Label). Those settings can also affect the names of Facts shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#propertyboxfactstab.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Property Box Dialogue: Individuals: Facts Tab<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#recordswindow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Records Window<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>To list Facts line by line set <em>Layout Events and Attributes\u2026<\/em> to <em>on separate line<\/em>s on the Report Options &gt; Main tab.<\/li>\n<li>The Facts can stand out even more by adding a bullet character (\u25cf) to the front of each Abbreviation setting mentioned above, e.g. \u25cf Born &amp; \u25cf Died. However, that affects some Facts shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#propertyboxfactstab.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Property Box Dialogue: Individuals: Facts Tab<\/a> but it can be counteracted via the <em>Advanced<\/em> button and setting the <em>Override Template<\/em> to the Fact name plus {place} code, e.g. <code>Born {place}<\/code> &amp; <code>Died {place}<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>The Descendant Outline report is similar to popular reports produced by other products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In all\u00a0Reports\u00a0the\u00a0Media\u00a0are governed by the\u00a0<em>Pictures\u00a0<\/em>tab and the\u00a0<em>Sources\u00a0<\/em>tab. The number of\u00a0Media\u00a0images included is chosen by the\u00a0<em>Max Pics<\/em>\u00a0settings.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/download-type\/report-types\/\">Download Type:\u00a0Reports<\/a> for some predefined Custom Reports.<\/p>\n<h2>Report Navigation<\/h2>\n<p>Note that each\u00a0Report Window\u00a0has two vertical scroll bars on the right. The inner bar scrolls up &amp; down one page, while the outer bar scrolls through all the pages.<\/p>\n<p>The panel on the right has several navigation aids. Press the\u00a0F1\u00a0key to obtain advice about their use. If you need to change the selection of records included in the report, use the\u00a0Records\u00a0button to obtain the\u00a0Select Records\u00a0dialogue again. To display the\u00a0Property Box Dialogue\u00a0for a record, double click its entry under\u00a0Page Records, and from that dialogue it is easy to navigate to parents, spouse, and children.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tabulated reports identify close family relationships via labelled entries such s Father, Mother, Spouse, Husband, Wife &amp; Children.<\/li>\n<li>Narrative reports have a heading for each Generation, and each person has a unique number.<\/li>\n<li>Indented reports may have lines connecting the indented generations, and each person has a unique number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where\u00a0Source Citations\u00a0are included via the\u00a0Report &gt; Report Options &gt; Sources\u00a0tab, each has a unique number that is cross-referenced by a superscript on the associated Facts, etc.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0Index\u00a0to people, places, and attributes can be included via the\u00a0Report &gt; Report Options &gt; Index\u00a0tab.<\/p>\n<h2>Report Formatting<\/h2>\n<p>The report style is set via the\u00a0Report &gt; Report Options &gt; Format\u00a0tab and\u00a0Page Layout\u00a0tab.<\/p>\n<h3>Format Tab<\/h3>\n<p>This tab sets the character Font, the Hdg Style, and Heading text for each section. Select the item to change and click the Edit button bottom left. It also allows the Format for Dates to be chosen, and possibly the Empty Section Text and Colours of graphical items.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0Font\u00a0options support the usual\u00a0Font\u00a0set,\u00a0Font Style\u00a0(Regular, Italic, Bold, etc.), point\u00a0Size,\u00a0Strikeout,\u00a0Underline, and\u00a0Colour\u00a0characteristics. It may need some experimentation to discover which option affects which category of text.<\/li>\n<li>The Hdg Style only affects a few top level headings and specifies the Gap and Horizontal Line above and below those headings, and how many subsequent lines to keep with the heading on the same page. If this last setting is significantly increased to say 99 lines it will effectively force a new page for that heading level.<\/li>\n<li>Each Heading option lets you Hide\/Show Heading and define what text is shown.
