This enables you to display on a map the locations where events in the life of an individual took place.<\/p>\n<h2>Geocoding in Version 6 and above<\/h2>\n<span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> version 6 introduced Place Records which have fields for latitude and longitude. You can update these by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opening the Map Window (<a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">View&nbsp&gt;&nbspMore&nbspWorkspace&nbspWindows&nbsp&gt;&nbspMap&nbspWindow<\/a> or use the <em>Map Pin<\/em> button <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cs_v alignnone lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/helpv6\/mapwindow_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"41\" height=\"31\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 41px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 41\/31;\" \/> on the taskbar) and following the instructions at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.family-historian.co.uk\/help\/fh6\/hh_start.htm#mapwindow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Map Window<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>You can geocode markers <a href=\"#automaticgeocoding\">automatically<\/a>;\u00a0 or drag a place\/fact from the list onto the map to set its position; or drag a marker already on the map to improve its position. If you want to drag markers, remember to enable dragging using the <em>Enable Marker Dragging<\/em> button <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cs_v alignnone lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/fhug.org.uk\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/helpv6\/mapwindow_6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"33\" height=\"31\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 33px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 33\/31;\" \/> on the Map Window taskbar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Opening a Place Record for editing (either in the Map Window or the Places Record Window) and entering latitude and longitude manually.\u00a0 You might choose this approach if you have (for example) found a location on Google Maps that won&#8217;t automatically geocode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can view locations on a map within the Map Window, but there is no facility to integrate them into a website generated by <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"automaticgeocoding\"><\/a>Automatic Geocoding<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Before using the automatic geocoding of Place names, it is advisable to use <a href=\"#!\" class=\"cs_tooltip\" fhugtt=\"This is the menu across the top of the main Family Historian windows. The &gt; denotes a submenu\">Tools&nbsp&gt;&nbspPreferences<\/a> and tick <em>Block Refresh of Non-tentative Geocodes<\/em> on the <em>Map Window<\/em> tab to avoid refreshing and upsetting manually adjusted records.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> automatic geocoding is limited to a quota of about 250 requests per day, although it may be somewhat higher on the first day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Map Life Facts Plugin<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pluginstore.family-historian.co.uk\/page\/plugin\/map-life-facts\">Map Life Facts<\/a> plugin works from <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> version 5 onwards. It can geocode various combinations of place and address information and maintain its own database of locations outside <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>, or store the results within <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> in a variety of locations. It can also generate html maps of the locations associated with one or more individuals; however, these are held outside <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> but can be included as separate pages in a website generated within <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This plugin can be very useful in parallel with the built-in geocoding and mapping facilities in <span class=\"fh\" style=\"font-size: 17px !important; line-height: 21.4286px !important;\">\u0192<span style=\"color:#73B262; font-weight: bold;\">h<\/span><\/span> version 6+, as it can be configured to store its results within Place Records. It has the advantage that you can geocode more items per day.
