An Ancestor Diagram (known on some other programs as a pedigree chart, especially when shown in a left to right format) shows the ancestors of a selected Individual person or Family couple known as the Diagram RootAll Diagrams have a root. This is the person from which the diagram “spreads out”; in the standard diagram preferences the root box is shown in a different colour from other boxes..
In 1st example below the Individual is Ian Stephen MUNRO shown with the default white box background of Version 7 and earlier (Version 8 boxes have a light glow instead of a shadow, and the root box is white by default; Charts > Choose Preferred Look for Standard Diagrams switches between looks).
In 2nd example the Family is Ian Stephen MUNRO & Charlotte CARRINGTON both with white box background.
