export gedcom

Post by oak56 »

I have the latest version windows 11 and latest version of Family Historian to start. I use both Rootsmagic 10 and Family Historian 7 for my project. When I use the export gedcom plugin for rootsmagic i see something weird happen. I can use either the full or brief option then under the extra tab under named list entry i have that set to remove entirely. When I import this file to rootsmagic under every name in the note section there listed is a note stating the name and surname ect. Before the plugin was updated it did not do this if i removed it entirely. Hope this makes sense. Is there something I am forgetting to do? Is this not a FH7 thing but rootsmagic? If i export from roots and say no notes included then when i import to FH7 the notes of the names are no longer there. See the pics Thank you

Those Notes are nothing to do with the Named Lists.

They are derived from subsidiary name fields in your Project data Individual records.
1~Name Given: is derived from INDI.NAME.GIVN shown on All tab as Name > Given
1~Surname: is derived from the INDI.NAME.SURN shown on All tab as Name > Surname

They can be eliminated by unticking the plugin Other Options tab settings for those two features near top left.
However, then the INDI.NAME.GIVN and INDI.NAME.SURN field values will be retained in the GEDCOM.

When project data is imported from other products they often have those two fields set to match the Name field components, but FH does not manage those fields and does not keep them synchronised with each other.

If you need to know how to delete those two fields then post again.
