Forum update

Post by ColeValleyGirl »

The forums have been updated to the latest version of the underlying software.

Known issues: Please do not report these!
  • The logo needs updating.
  • The Wish List is broken.
If you encounter any other issues, please report them here (one issue per post, please, to help us keep track of what has and has not been done). We do know there are likely to be problems with the ProSilver theme.

Important: Do not log an issue that somebody else has already reported; we only need to be told once! Duplicates will be deleted to help us keep track.

Links to old wiki

Post by ColeValleyGirl »

Anything that relies on a redirect from the old wiki to the new wiki is broken, as the old wiki is not going to be upgraded to the latest software.

Update: The key links from the front page have been fixed; other key links will be fixed as we find them. Links within old post will not be fixed.

Fixed: Pink Metrolike colour scheme.

Post by BillH »

It may be just me, but the new Metrolike color scheme is not to my taste.

Update by ColeValleyGirl:

The default theme is now Metrolike Blue, and all Metrolike users have been switched to this option; the Home Page will be updated to match. A wider range of colours is available to select when you edit your user profile.

Thanks for the quick fix Helen and Jane.

It would apper the chosen colour does not stick.
I chose orange, being the closest to the original, but it reverts to blue when i log out, definitely not to my liking :|

Seems to work for me. I picked brown and when I logout and log back in the brown is still there.

Bill,
i meant it reverts to Blue every time I logout. It is only orange whilst I’m logged in :D

I see. Me too. I figured it was because the default is blue.

Just don't log out and tick the remember me button.

Jane,
That works, but somewhat defeats the purpose of the ‘who is logged in summary’ at bottom of page.
I may be logged in but I am no longer on-line!

I think we’ll have to accept that we will never get a default look that satisfies everybody (but remember that it is our public face, so needs to be presentable). I’ve seen some very exotic colour schemes in member screen grabs :).

Technical question - are we stuck with the pre-defined themes, or can we devise our own? That is most definitely NOT a request for Jane or Helen to do it, but do we have a professional web designer user who could take it on if it was considered necessary?

Not speaking for Jane, but I 'm not keen on themes with low numbers of sites using them (especially where that number approaches 1) and low numbers of maintainers. Especially having spent some significant time last week patching the theme we'd chosen for the Knowledge Base because its maintainer lost interest two years ago and hadn't updated it for the latest versions of PHP and WordPress. (Advance warning: expect a theme-change on the KnowledgeBase at some point -- but we'll stick with Blue :) ).

I'm also not sure I see the point of having our own custom theme -- it still won't please everyone.

Prompted by Gowermick's comment I experimented with:

1. Using the User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Hide my online status, (which says this won’t become effective until your next visit to the board)

2. Logging out, then logging in again and ticking the option to Hide my online status this session.

Neither of these seems to have any effect. Am I missing something?

The list is maintained by activity so will remove a user once they have been inactive for around 5 mins.
It is a standard function of phpBB so anyone interested can check out the phpBB documentation.

Lorna once you have shown up then I suspect if you change the settings you will need to wait until you have timed out to then hide your status.

I just tried logging out then waiting 10 minutes before logging back in and ticking Hide my online status this session. I still showed up. Maybe cookies have an effect? Not that it bothers me - the experiment was only prompted by what Gowermick said.

I wonder if you always see youself as online and the options just control whether others can see you?

I'm still curious about what use people make on the 'Who is online' information.

I've just logged in again with hide set. It now says 7 registered and two hidden. But there are 8 names listed including myself. Does anyone else see me as online now?
