Ancestral Sources v7.8.2 Beta Testing (August 2023)

Post by NickWalker »

Just a couple of updates to the current v7.8.1 that it would be useful to have tested before I release it. Feedback gratefully received.

The main change will only be of interest to those of you who edit or create AS autotext templates. I've added some automatic colour coding features to the auto text template editor so that Keywords and Functions are shown in different colours. As Ancestral Source templates can get quite complex with multiple functions within functions (nested), the different levels of nesting are also shown in different colours. This is all configurable by a new dialog box on the screen.

New Features in v7.8.2 (Beta Test)
  • On the Autotext Template Editor screen the editor now uses colours to indicate key words and functions. By default it uses the colours to help to distinguish functions that are "nested" within other functions. These can be controlled using a new configuration dialogue on the Autotext Template screen.
  • The title bar for the main screen will now indicate whether it is the 64 bit or 32 bit version of Ancestral Sources that is running. This was inspired by a request from John Elvin.
The 64 bit version is available to test here: Ancestral Sources v7.8.2 64 Bit
The 32 bit version is available to test here: Ancestral Sources v7.8.2 32 Bit
You may get warnings about the download not being commonly downloaded and you may need to confirm you definitely want to install it. Based on previous experience this should eventually stop happening once this new version of AS gets more downloads.

Please report in this thread any issues you spot or email me (nick at ancestralsources dot com).

Nick

Many thanks, another useful upgrade.

Seems to work perfectly for me so far. Default colour scheme is also just fine and no edits needed, although I did try a couple to test it worked on my system and no issues there.

Wow, that would have been so handy back when I was doing the first templates. Really great idea, and when I'm back to things zfter summer, I look forward to the benefit as I have some horrid complex templates that would benefit from a tidy up and the syntax colouring will be a boon.

As a few people have downloaded this and I've no reports of any issues I'm releasing this update now to the general public. Thanks as always for your feedback.

Thanks Chris. I'm probably not far away from starting testing on 7.8.3!
