Forced Logout
Over the past few days at seemingly random times, when using my iPad, I have been logged out when trying to return to Board Index
Scenario:
1. Login
2. Navigate to a sub-forum and or sub-sub-forum, that indicates there is an unread post.
3. Find an unread post
4. Read the post
5. Click Board Index at top of page
6. I am sent back to Board Index, but then find I have been logged out.
I have yet to determine a pattern.

Re: Forced Logout
It sounds like a session change (perhaps an IP Nat session update). Do you normally use the "keep me logged in" if not that may be worth a try as cookies normally survive session changes.

Re: Forced Logout
I don't know if this is relevant, but the actual iPad login occasionally doesn't work correctly.
Normally, I click Login, the iPad retrieves my user name and password, which I then click to confirm.
On the odd occasion, the forum, instead of logging me in and presenting me with the Board Index, it instead presents me with another login screen, which I then have to click OK to proceed - very weird
BTW, am not aware of keep me logged in for this site. so never used it

Re: Forced Logout
The login dialogue has tick box called Remember me which is I suspect what Jane calls the keep me logged in option.

Mike,
I always regarded Remember Me as a signal to my PC to keep my login details and Keep me logged in as a signal to the site, two completely different outcomes. i doubt Jane meant the Remember Me

Re: Forced Logout
Check your User Profile Manage “Remember Me” login keys option which suggests that if you don't Logout of FHUG then the Remember Me setting will automatically login the next time the device visits FHUG, which I think is much the same as Keep me logged in.
I'm not aware of any other FHUG Keep me logged in feature.

Re: Forced Logout
Sorry, yes Remember Me. I never see it as I tick it once and my devices stay logged in.

Mike,
Pedant that I am, Remember me next I visit the site is not the same as keep me logged in, even when I am not visiting, which certain sites do in order to track you.
Now Jane has explained it, I may use it in future.
BTW Familysearch has keep me logged in for next 14 days, but sadly it doesn’t work for me

Re: Forced Logout
Another possibility is that your ISP is allocating you different IP addresses.
While you are logged in to the forums, open another browser tab and go to https://www.whatismyip.com/. Take a note of what that reports for My Public IPv4 is.
When you find you've been logged out again go back to the same page and check if the number has changed.

Worth a try I suppose. But it is rather random.jelv wrote: ↑02 Jun 2023 16:46 Another possibility is that your ISP is allocating you different IP addresses.

Re: Forced Logout
It may depend on what you expect "keep me logged in" to do.
What happens for me is that I have to hit the "Login" "button" every day (but only once a day?) but the "Login" "button" takes me straight in until the 2w are up (time interval not guaranteed). Only after that 2w is up, do I see the user-id / password screen as a response to "Login".
IIRC, discussions on the FS Support sub-site indicate this is what's supposed to happen.

Re: Forced Logout
Isn't that odd. I often do not even have to click on Login. I'm already logged in when I go to the website. Sometimes I do have to click on Login, but do not have to enter my credentials.AdrianBruce wrote: ↑02 Jun 2023 19:51What happens for me is that I have to hit the "Login" "button" every day (but only once a day?) but the "Login" "button" takes me straight in until the 2w are up (time interval not guaranteed). Re: Forced Logout
Bill and Adrian,
I keep logged into Findmypast, Ancestry and they are still there the following day, even after shutting down my PC for the night.
Not so for Familysearch! When i return the following day, my last search results are still there, but when I click on one, I am asked to login again. If memory serves, I sometimes have to login more than once a day.
FS certainly does not keep me logged in for 14 days, despite ticking the box.
