Pitfalls when Searching on Ancestry

Post by Gowermick »

I have been searching for PR Burial images on Ancestry, and was looking for James Harrison, buried 21 March 1865 at Manchester Catherdral, which I had previously found in their Manchester, England, Births, Marriages and Banns, & Deaths

I selected England as place search criteria, which gave me no results!!!, I was puzzled why at least the above entry didn't come up in the results.

Undeterred, I removed England from the search criteria, leaving it blank, and voila, there he was, with image - result!

I know Ancestry is US Centric, but surely they must know Manchester is in England as the image came from their Lancashire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812.

I know that when searching, less is sometimes better, but that is ridiculous. It now means I'll have to repeat all my recent searches, removing England from search criteria , and put up with all the dross from rest of GB
