Funding review for Australian TROVE website!
Hello,
If you are a user of the Australian TROVE website for your genealogical research, you might care to read the information and petition that is being hosted on the change.org website at present, with regard to TROVE's future funding.

Re: Funding review for Australian TROVE website!
In order to sign the petition, you have to declare that you are "a resident or citizen of Australia", so unless you are, you can't sign without lying. I was disappointed to learn this when I went to sign, given how much material I've found via Trove.

I was well aware that TROVE was in the sights of the Politicians, but was unaware of this petition.
One more signature on it.
I have used it extensively and local historians have also been making themselves heard.
Regards
Roger

Teresa - there are a number of petitions to sign for TROVE and these are the main ones:
https://www.change.org/p/fully-fund-trove (28,000+ signatures)
https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN4747 (10,000+ signatures)
I didn't come across anything that said you had to be a resident of Australia to sign unless it blocks you if you select another country of origin?
If you have Australian research then TROVE is your number one research tool from the National Library of Australia.

I have a vague memory from another mailing list that you had to be an Australian citizen to sign the government e-petition one (because that's their purpose) but change.org is open to anyone to sign.DarrylGale wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 03:12... I've signed the change.org one.
Below is a screen capture from the petition at the second link - I've outlined the declaration one must make in red.

This is indeed correct. Not sure how much help the Change.org one will be, but at least I've done what I can from Canada.

Re: Funding review for Australian TROVE website!
Teresa & Adrian - thanks for signing and you are both correct re the government petition is only open to Australians. I signed when it was first released and there was no declaration. It was there upon checking the petition this morning - gremlins or added later? These are now the correct links:
Anyone can sign this TROVE petition:
https://www.change.org/p/fully-fund-trove
Only Australians can sign this TROVE petition:
