File Statistics - unable to repeat earlier print layout

Post by patthepiper »

Please help - I'm going around in circles trying to repeat an earlier report.

On the 18th. May I printed a File Statistics report showing three sections.
1) Project Title showing 3 paragraphs project name, gedcom, FH ver 7.0.5
2) Record Counts
3) Facts e.g. earliest birth, most recent birth etc.

Today File>File Statistics produces a small mid-screen window showing only 1) and 2) and looking nothing like my 18th May report.

I must be the culprit! I have just noticed -
Today I am using an updated copy of the May 18th database, which is also missing the (supplied) practice database - so I my mistake must with copying the 18th May database.

So, please, before I dig a deeper hole, how best to 1) clear the report problem and 2) recover the practice database?

You are mixing up the File > File Statistics... command with the Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > File Statistics report.
BTW: Try using the Publish > Publishing Tools Finder... and then Project/Statistics Reports.

I imagine by "the (supplied) practice database" you mean the Family Historian Sample Project.
I cannot explain why it should have disappeared unless you deleted it.
It is restored via File > Project Window > More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project as explained in FHUG Knowledge Base Key Features for Newcomers.

Mike,
Bless you!
I'm at the bottom of very steep learning curve! After trying File>File Statistics I trawled through the drop-downs and must have missed Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > File Statistics - my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Re missing Sample Project - I must re-read "Key Features .... "

Many thanks for your help.

Hello Mike,
This didn't work -
File > Project Window > More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project
It returned an error message, sorry I cannot remember the text.

The Sample Project was not listed in the Project Window. I checked the PW in some old projects, and the SP was missing from all.

I found the Sample Project as a gedcom, opened it as a new project, and that fixed it. It now appears in the Project Window, so I can now use it.

We live and learn, but in my case slowly!

Many thanks for your help,
Kind regards,
Pat

Pat, something sounds wrong. The error message is very important.

Are you sure what you opening are Projects listed in the File > Project Window?

Does the main FH window say - Family Historian Project - on the top border?
OR does it say - Family Historian Gedcom - which means your Projects are broken.

A screenshot of the entire Project Window would be useful.

Hello Mike,

I tried several times the Reset Sample Project link, and every time it ended with an error message telling me that it was restored but there was a problem – I cannot remember the exact wording. In fact nothing was restored.

Then I found a gedcom of the Sample which I opened as a New Project and which became listed in the File>Project Window as Family Historian Sample Project (2). It is the only Sample listed – and why the green tick?

On checking the C drive folders I found the new Project plus the original Sample and a copy of the original. For some reason the copy had been updated.

Many thanks for your help.
Kind regards,
Pat

I suspect the problem is that you have several Family Historian Sample Project ... folders.

I suggest you use Windows File Explorer and delete all three Family Historian Sample Project ... folders.

The green tick is absolutely normal and identifies the default Project that opens automatically whenever you open FH.

Is that variety of five DONS for FAMILY HISTORIAN ... projects normal?

Hello Mike,

Ref -
<you have several Family Historian Sample Projects
also
< five DONS for FAMILY HISTORIAN

Thanks for the prompt - I'm a bad housekeeper and seem to collect junk!

On file I now have only the current database DONS for FAMILY HISTORIAN... (5) and two Sample Projects.

I have been keeping modifications and updates on one Sample Project; the other is cleaned or replaced with a new copy after use.

Regards,
Pat
