the substitute should work fine, I have only about 30 or so that would need the alterations.

I have found a Stone, Tenterden, Kent is this like our Boroughs? ie: New York, New York and then more granular: Bronx, New York, NY? or something else?

Also an English friend of mine who is not really one to explicate, (he has absolutely no interest in any of this stuff) said of one of my addresses, maybe it is a listed house. I googled listed house (believe it was in tenterden) and it was. I don't remember the exact name of it, but lets call it Marsden.

So, if I understand it correctly, it needs no street address to define it. mail and google could pinpoint exactly... Marsden, , Tenterden, Kent, EN, GBR. is that true? in any case, I could not find the exact postal code for it, other than the general TN5 or whatever...

Is there a site you all know of that does a good job of explaining English place and address name anomalies?

https://www.genuki.org.uk/ and it's Gazetteer https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/Gazetteer is a good place to start, remember in the UK, county boundaries have been moved on a regular basis over time.

If you want to look up postcodes a good place to start is
https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode

Your example of Stone, could be Stone-in-Arden which is about 11 miles from Tenterden.

Until recently the post office would make a "good" guess, so historic documents can have a "real address" or simply a set of instructions for finding the place. Even this year, we had a Christmas card with an address of just Taubman, Ilminster

In the context of your Census record for Stone, Tenterden, Kent you need to consult the Registration Districts listed in https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/ which also apply to Birth, Marriage & Death registration since 1837.
From that website click the link for Kent to reach https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/ken.html Reg Districts in Kent.
There click on the link for Tenterden to reach https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/tenterden.html.
That lists the Civil Parish place names in the Tenterden Registration District.
Note that includes the Civil Parish names Stone and Tenterden.
In 1894 there was some reorganisation of Ebony, Stone & Tenterden.

I suspect your Census record relates to the Civil Parish of Stone within the Registration District of Tenterden.

Notice also that there is a Civil Parish of Tenterden within the Registration District of Tenterden, rather like there is Wabasha within Wabasha County, MN.

So a place in the Registration District of Tenterden may be nowhere near Tenterden town, just as a place in Wabasha County, MN may be nowhere near Wabasha town.

These Registration District names are not necessarily aligned with the place names and postal addresses that Jane has referred to.

Just to add to Mikes post to say, it's important to have a good "handle" on Registration districts especially when dealing with GRO indexes and to remember that the place a birth or death is registered may be quite a long way from where the family actually lived and could be in a different county.

Mike - did you make the change to the Plugin in respect of the hyphen & minus keys, etc? mentioned at the beginning of this stream? I am getting the invalid API code message and have one or the other of these in it - I've tried re-pasting from the relevant Google page and also tried regenerating the API (the latter gave me a new API with both a hyphen / minus sign and an underscore so I still got the error!). I am using v4.5 of the Plugin

I did make that change, but had not yet published it in the Plugin Store.
However, the diagnostic V4.5.1 attached today to the Map Life Facts error message (17119) thread should contain the fix, and the diagnostic is very unlikely to impact you. So give that a whirl and let me know if it solves your problem.
