Split Tree Helper -- How to Delete Unlinked PLACES

Postby SoCalSienna » 13 Nov 2017 07:11

Split Tree Helper does not seem to delete PLACE records that are "left with no link to them." When I use Split Tree Helper to get a small split-off tree, the unlinked Places are retained. What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong.
Calico Pie forgot to add a Delete Place Records... option to the Split Tree Helper.
(You can delete all unlinked Place records very easily as explained in Knowledge Base > Delete Any Number of Records.)

Depending on what options you need, it may be easier to use the File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File command.
That does have a Place records option, and is less risky as you don't have to remember to Copy the Project first.
Also that technique handles linked Media files much better.
See Knowledge Base > Exporting a Family Tree with/without Media for full details.
