Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Hi Forum
The Plug-In 'Find Duplicate Citations' does not find Citations assigned against the Individual's Name
Please see 2nd screen shot showing result of running the Plug-In 'List all Citations for a Source' you will see the Source for death is cited twice against George Lewis Name*
The 1st screen shot shows the two citations - linked that same source.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
I should have mentioned this was the result of a merge of two sources. I used the Find Duplicate Citations and found Dup's assigned to the Birth and the Death Facts. Then when tidying up the Citations for the Name I noticed these Duplicated Citations there but not appearing on the result when running the Plug-in

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
I think the reason is that the Citations are not identical.
The Entry Date is different.
So although the cited Source is duplicated the Citations are not duplicates.
When performing the Merge the Entry Date values were overlooked.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Hi Mike
Yes - correct. I first manually create a source for the GRO entry and Cite that (Death Index in this case). Then when the Certificate arrives I enter that through AS. Then I manually merge the two so I have the GRO ref and Image embedded with the True Source relating to the death cert.
So what should I do during the Merge in order to find all Duplicates using the Plug-In
I have been doing this for some time is there an easy way to find the Dup's that are out there against the Names?

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Thinking about it, there is not much you can do in the Merge of the Source records, because the discrepancy is in the Citation Entry Date which is part of the Individual record.
On closer inspection my original analysis is incorrect. The explanation is much simpler!!!
As its description says, Find Duplicate Citations only looks at Facts, and not Names, nor anywhere else Citations can exist, such as Fact Witnesses, etc. It was written in 2013 before Fact Witnesses even existed. It really needs to be rewritten to search everywhere.
Whereas, List all Citations for a Source despite being written earlier is more exhaustive, like Where Used Record Lists, and searches everywhere for Citations and because it is a generic search it includes anything new like Fact Witnesses.
So that is one answer, use either of those latter two Plugins, and eyeball the duplicates in the Result Set.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Hi Mike
Yes - a test of the Where Used Records or List all Citations picks them up okay. But only the Where used Record Links can run for all Sources in one pass.
The only issue now is to find what else might be Duplicated this way. I'll have to run the Where Used Record Links for all Sources drop the result into Excel and filter by duplicated Names and ID #.
Unless you can think of a simpler way?
I'll remove that Plug-in for Find Duplicates.
Thanks for the explanation and help today.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Try the ATTACHMENT Where Used Record Links Version 1.2.1 Date 24 May 2017. [Now in the Plugin Store.]
It checks for duplicate usage and marks Data Ref Where Used column in Result Set with an asterisk.
So click on that column to sort and all the asterisked duplicates come to the top in associated clumps.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
That might be a useful candidate for the Plugin Store.

Re: Plug-In Find Duplicate Citations
Where Used Record Links Plugin V1.3 is now in the Plugin Store.
Not sure about retiring Find Duplicate Citations as although it does not find them all, it does find the most popular ones on Facts, and has the added feature of offering to delete the duplicates.

Hi Mike. Would always respect your opinion. It was a loose thought and I see your point.
