Re: My Heritage Hints not working
Which Facebook Group page is that Colin? I did not know one existed.
I found https://www.facebook.com/Family-Histori ... 523803655/ but nothing is posted there about My Heritage.
Nothing is on the family-historian-users@rootsweb.com [FHU] Mailing List.

It's probably https://www.facebook.com/groups/FHusers/
I'm not a member, but I remember Colin setting it up a few years ago, as discussed towards the end of this topic: https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 631#p64631

I have created a glossary:family_historian_networking|> Family Historian Networking page for Facebook, Twitter, etc, links.
There was a Google+ site but that service no longer exists.

@Mike
Google Hangouts still exist https://hangouts.google.com/ it is just Google+ that has closed down. You need a Gmail / Google account to start a hangout but they do still work.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
Not that I am aware of. We could always set one up and see how it goes. Maybe a poll on the forum to see if there is any interest?

I contacted MH on Sunday and Monday and they said their tech team are working on it-must be a lot of work as still no hints!

Still not working, I phoned MH yesterday and they said they're going to pass it up the line to their super tech team! I told them that other FH users were having the same problems too.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
email reply from My Heritage received today:
The Smart Matches that have been calculated for you at MyHeritage are unrelated to the matches you receive at Family Historian.
Matches that you receive at Family Historian are processed differently, using a different algorithm and are calculated at a lower rate. Therefore, it can often take more time until you see the results in Family Historian.
I hope this clarifies and if you have any further questions, please feel free to reply to this email and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Looks like they haven't got a clue! Don't understand why FMP can give hints on FH who I don't subscribe too but suddenly MH can't!? Looks like I'll have to ditch MH in favour of FMP in future.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
Both FMP and MH usually give 'hints' regardless of whether you subscribe or not.Don't understand why FMP can give hints on FH who I don't subscribe too but suddenly MH can't!?
That is because records are 'searchable' for free on most subscription sites.
( Try setting up a free account on Ancestry, FMP, MH, etc, and search the records. )
What the subscription offers is the ability to view and download the matching record details.
So 'hints' can be raised even without a subscription and give a strong clue to a BMD Index or Census record existing.
Their objective is to entice to you to pay the subscription to see that web site's records.
e.g. I am the opposite to John, with a FMP subscription, and no MH subscription, but I still get 'hints' and 'matches' from both.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I've the same problem MH matches haven't been showing properly for a number of days now. They flashed up briefly then disappeared again.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I have also been having trouble with the MyHeritage hints. Some of the older ones are still there, but it just doesn't seem to be scanning for new matches.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
email received today from My Heritage regarding lack of hints:
I totally sympathize with you and understand how frustrating it might be to not receive any new MyHeritage Smart Matches in Family Historian.
However, I've checked this and unfortunately, I need to let you know that this won't be changed anytime soon - matches for Family Historian are calculated at a lower rate and can take some more time.
Product decisions are categorized and prioritized according to many factors, for example, the resources that it requires and the overall impact it has on the MyHeritage system.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
So at the end of my sub to MH I shall return to FMP. MH are not interested in us FH users so why should I be interested in paying for them?
Did you know that they MH, recently merged with Geni.com but have kept both sites going-keeps the money rolling in!

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I don't actually use the Hints feature so can't comment on whether or how they work, but what John reports may not be totally surprising.
A couple of years ago, My Heritage bought the company behind Legacy Family Tree, and they also have their own Family Tree Builder software, so to expect them to put much effort into supporting a rival product may be a bit unrealistic.

I'm ceasing my Data Subscription as well -- but only because their datasets don't offer much of relevance to my research that other sites don't offer. I am maintaining a Tree Subscription so I can continue to use the DNA facilities.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
Yet another email from MH:
We at MyHeritage are committed to customer service and we would like to make sure you're satisfied using our services, despite this issue.
Therefore, I've extended your Complete subscription and added 6 months for free. This changes the renewal date to June 30, 2020.
I know that this compensation doesn't fix the problem, but I hope that it can at least help to reassure you that we do very much value you as one of our users and that we have the good intention to make sure you are satisfied using our services and products.
Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.
Didn't want another 6 months of something that I hardly use now since they stopped giving hints on FH!

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
It is not clear whether MyHeritage hints will ever be fixed or not.
Certainly it is NOT going to be fixed soon.
Calico Pie have confirmed that it is a problem.
FindMyPast hints should still be working OK.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
MyHeritage seem to be having all sorts of problems -- I've a technical (DNA-related ticket) that they're struggling with and have been for weeks -- a simple matter of emailing me two files but it fails consistently.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I just started getting hints from MyHeritage again, when I click on the link it shows me the hints and then when I go back to look at FindMyPast hints the counter has removed the MyHeritage hints and they are no longer available. Has anyone else noticed this?

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
No, I cannot see any improvement.
Remember that hints are cached in FH, so if you have not reviewed particular Individual records in the Focus Window of a particular Project then the hints counters will continue to be shown in green until you either click on them or use the refresh icon, and then if MyHeritage (or FindMyPast) is not updating them they vanish.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I know that Mike, but they weren't there for a little while and have started to show up again. When I restarted FH this morning the ones that had disappeared are back again, I only started to notice this again because my mother only has one hint from anywhere and when I look at it is the same one that has started reappearing and disappearing, then reappearing again.
Just tried refreshing it and the counters disappeared, closed FH and reopened and they are back.

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
Yes, that is what I am seeing, and they are definitely coming from the FH cache.
If I rename the cache file the hints permanently vanish.
Rename that cache file back again and the hints reappear.
Maybe what you initially saw was some sort of MyHeritage glitch.
