I have no real problem with any of the skins, silly as it seems the only thing I dislike is phpBB logo at the top of Prosilver. It is larger and more prominent than the FHUG part and I always have a double check to see if I am on the right forum. It is the main reason I am now using Metrolike and the burnt orange, which is fine by me.

A snag with something like Midnight Lizard is that hyperlinks to the KB, other Topics, etc, etc, that are usually orange may become indistinguishable from plain text. Those hyperlinks used to be bold &/or underlined, but not now, so may look like plain text, unless you choose to map orange to some other colour than dark grey. The screenshot looks like perhaps a slightly bluish grey tint replaces orange?

Helen: I notice that some links (in Jane's signature) in your screenshot are underlined, which shows your browser history is using old styles and needs refreshing.

Links are purple if I remember correctly -- I'm not using it, it was just a test of what could be done.

At the risk of upsetting anyone I would like to get away from this ghastly orange skin
Is it possible to go back to the green one or at least a dark grey one ? I understnd that there were 2 orange skins I have tried and neither is successful ?
If you can live without the links to the home page and knowledge base at the top of the page, try the prosilver skin. You might find that preferable. I know I've been using it ever since it became available. For me the color scheme is much better and I like the fact that it is more compact than the other skins.

@Bill

I don't know if you have noticed but the PHPBB logo is now gone and the Home and KB links are now there in ProSilver.

Thank you @Jane for helping us who prefer the older skin.

Colin,

Thanks for letting me know, I had not noticed. For me the PHPBB logo is still there, but it looks like it might be a bit smaller. The links to the FHUG Home and Knowledge Base are great.

I notice that there are now 2 links to the FAQ after the Knowledge base link.

Thanks Jane!

Bill,
The prosilver heading viewed in Firefox looks like this:

I notice that in your screenshot after the two FAQ links you also have an MCP link (Moderators Control Panel) which shouldn't be there for non-moderators.

I also notice that there is now, at the time of writing, a Metrolike Blue theme available. No doubt Jane is still experimenting.

Lorna,

I am using Chrome. It is interesting that the header is different in Chrome than in Firefox. I wonder why that is?

I figured that Jane was still playing around with the different skins.

Thanks,
Bill

It looks like that in Chrome too, but you may have to refresh &/or erase history to get it to update.

Colin, Have you performed all the usual refresh and clear history tricks to get the latest style?
I find browsers can be quite persistent in hanging on to old styles in their history.

Jane, while discussing anomalies, the style of URL hyperlinks in the different positions for different skins are inconsistent.
Some have underlines and some don't. Some are bold and some aren't.

The Firefox and Chrome scenario is:
In prosilver most have blue underlines, the exception is [topic] links.
Metrolike Blue is similar but some underlines are black and some are blue.
Metrolike correctly has no underlines anywhere.
Marina Orange mostly has no underlines, the exception is URL in Signatures.

In Marina Orange all URL are bold but in the other three none are bold except in the Last Post column and Who is online where red, green & purple links are bold.

I have no intention of matching all the themes, they are different designs, personally I would prefer to have only one style, but as so many people seem to want choice I have provided it.

Sorry Jane, but I am not talking about the styles themselves, but the inconsistent way hyperlinks are presented.
They are not even consistent within one skin style.
There is a strange mixture of underlined, non-underlined, colour of underline, bold & non-bold even within each style.
There are also many variations of that between styles too.

Mike, unless Jane is going to rewrite standard themes (which she should not even consider) what we see is what we get.

Couldn't agree more Helen, this is the first forum I have ever been on where you have ever had a choice of themes. I have never left any forum because it is the wrong colour or has a line under a hyperlink or for that matter thought about complaining about it. I am on a forum to give or get advice or have a chat about a subject and on this forum receiving advice seems to be the flavour of the moment for me just now.

Since the changes I have found that I lose my login status when navigating between a post page and an index.
I don't think it is a change in my browser addins (FHUG cookies are whitelisted).
If it is a known problem following recent forum changes I will live(!) with the problem rather than launch a forensic examination of my browser addins - which is not something I relish!

Try ticking the Remember me option in the Login dialogue.
Otherwise there is tendency for premature logout if you are not entering data.

Thanks that seems to suppress the problem
Never suffered from premature logout before - must be getting old (which I suppose is inevitable)

Davidf, you're only getting older at the same rate as the rest of us.

Just a pity that the destination is closer for some of us.

One thing I have noticed with the new site is that after I select my login details from my iPad keyboard, I am immediately logged in, without need of a confirming enter key.

This is a welcome but different behaviour from all my other forum sites, where after selecting correct login details, these are simply passed to the Login and Password fields, and I have to press enter to actually login.

NB The speed of this new site is brilliant, where actions are carried out in milliseconds rather than seconds.
Good site choice Jane.
