Hi All, Help needed S S Dalcross
My father Samuel Thomas Oscar Davies was a cabin boy on this ship and it sailed around the world during these years. I once saw on line the ships log showing the ports and dates that the Dalcross called at but I can no longer find this website. I have a pay docket of my fathers which show that he was in Vladivostok, Kobe, Dunedin, Sydney, Durban, Las Palmas and Cardiff. From recollection the website said that the Dalcross was in Bermuda and Montreal and there is a photo of the ship in Vancouver.
If anyone can suggest where I can find the details of this voyage I would be extremely grateful.

I simply did a Google search for "S S Dalcross" (including the string quotes) and loads of photos and websites were listed.

Hi Mike I have searched like this but it doesn't bring up the site I was looking for which seemed to be the log of the ship during this voyage but many thanks for the suggestion. I hoping that some shipping enthusiast among our members an point me in the right direction.

Hi Jane many thanks for your reply. I have visited all these sites and even tried logging on to the miramar ship index only to find I had used my trial had been before and needed a $20 subscription to log on again so I emailed them only to be told that whilst they had details on the Dalcross they had no details of the voyages so it was not this site that I found the voyage details.
I will try asking the other sites for help.

Something of a clutching at straws suggestion - (steam locos I'm fine on, steam ships are a different kettle of fish..)

Could it possibly have been a Crew List (as per BT99 from Kew) that you were looking at? The only such example that I have has a number of calling points listed but they may have been only points where the crew changed and the British Consul had to certify the changes. Maybe not but least it might give a different thing to search on... Any such crew list would be a one off publication as 80% of them are in Newfoundland.

Thanks for this Adrian I have looked at crew lists in the past and have just had a brief look again and so far no luck. I will try again tomorrow.

Could the site you're looking for be part of, or in some way related to, the Old Weather Project, which uses volunteers to transcribe ships' logs to study weather conditions in past times? See https://www.oldweather.org/index.html.

Hi Bill thanks for your reply, which at first I thought was what I was looking for, but do you read as I do that these records are for the war years 1939-45. Whereas I'm looking for 1933-35. If I'm mistaken then I'll happily spend the £3.50

Aye Mike,

I agree that the reference that I provided relates to SS Dalcross' log between 1939-1945.

There are also further records in more detail of SS Dalcross on specific convoys during the period 1939-1945.

However, I have found this link, again on the National Archives website, titled:BT 99 - Registry of Shipping and Seamen: Agreements and Crew Lists, Series II_Official No. 161546 Dalcross

There is also the Maritime History Archive that lists crew lists for the Dalcross from 1930-1938: 1930-1938_crew_lists_161546_Dalcross

But, nothing as specific as you gave in your initial enquiry.

Many thanks to all who replied, whilst I've not found what I was looking for it has given me some ideas as to where to go next and I'm following these up. It has reinvigorated me to follow up this part of my fathers life, who from the small welsh town of Lampeter went on to sail around the world before settling down in Bristol and then Cardiff.
