Adding Census Fact to Husband only

Post by IreneMo » 12 Jan 2019 23:53

I added a Census fact to a husband and noticed that this has attached to the wife record as a fact as well. She was appeared on another census. Is there anyway that I can prevent this. Please note I'm NOT an advanced user of FH.

I'm using a Mac with Wine.

There are two types of census event available: Census which applies to an Individual record and appears with a blue dot beside it in the Facts tab of the Property Box, and Census (family) which applies to a Family record (husband and wife) and has a red dot beside it in the Facts tab. It sounds as if you have used the family event so it is listed against both the husband and wife. Re-enter it as an individual census event and all should be well.

As advised in Knowledge Base > Recording from a Census Record it is recommended that you only use Individual Census Events (blue dot) and never Family Census (family) Events (red dot).

Way back in the dim and distant past, before I routinely used AS, I manually entered some census records as Family Events to save time. I know they are there and keep meaning to correct them, but can no longer remember which families or records were involved. Is there any way to identify them?

As mentioned in Knowledge Base > Recording from a Census Record under Related Plugins, why not use the Migrate Census Family to Individual Events Plugin to automatically split each Family Census (family) Event into two Individual Census Events?

Alternatively, run the standard Query called All Events and click on the Event Type column to sort them.
The Census (family) events will be listed together with the owners identified.
You can either manually adjust the data entries or use AS to create new Individual Census Events, etc, and then delete the redundant Census (family) Event.
