producing report of all ancestors

Post by jbrooks »

Just wondering how I can produce an output of all related ancestors including their individual facts (BMD, occupations etc). It would be great to include associated media files links although just a nice to have.

Sorry, but you will need to give us a few more clues to what you want.

What exactly do you mean by "all related ancestors"?
Related to who? Perhaps the File Root or may be somebody else?
Does it include everyone, including by marriage, or any other partnership?
Does it include descendants of those ancestors, such as cousins, and their spouses ancestors, etc?
OR maybe you mean just the direct line ancestors ~ parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc?

You can select any combination of Individual records to include in Reports.
In the Select Records dialogue try using the Add Relatives and Add/Remove using Query buttons, or Named Lists tab, as explained in glossary:individual_summary_report#select_records|> Individual Summary Report > Select Records for example.

What exactly do you mean by "associated media"?
Photos attached to Individual and Family records?
Images attached to Facts?
Documents attached to Source Citations?
All the above are mostly included by default. Which ones have you found missing?

Would you prefer a tabulated summary of all Facts, or a narrative style report?
See glossary:standard_reports|> Standard Report Types.

What types of Report have you tried, and exactly what problems have you experienced.

As Mike says, depends what you want of course.

Most of the reports will let you include whichever people you want and create a pdf, but this could be very large.

If you do not wish to print, but peruse some output try:
Publish > Create a website with Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD). (Or your bespoke version or outline descendant for each individual for say 5 generations, or a doctored narrative). Then use any browser. It is amazingly quick and easy to hone in on individuals. You can also open different parts/people in different tabs. The only downside to reports created and perused 'within' FH is that it will not update in real time if you make changes.

If Jim means Reports exported in say PDF or via Publish > Create a Website then that is true, but all Reports (and Diagrams) shown on screen within FH do update in real time to any changes made. That is a selling point of FH over some other products.

Apologies, got that the wrong way round or at least badly worded: Should be something like:

The advantage of reports created and perused 'within' FH is that they update in real time if you make changes. With the Publish for Web, CD or DVD, or reports saved outside of FH (e.g. pdf, rtf), there is no realime update and you have to keep regenerating the report.
