Having imported from Ancestry what I thought was a group of related individuals I find that there were a sizeable number of unrelated individuals included which I had missed because they were not showing on the Ancestry tree. Unfortunately these are cluttering up my Project folder with about 100 names in approx 15 groups of orphans and I'd like to remove them.
Having searched the forum for threads and the FH Book for info on Named Lists I think that is the way to go. However the Named List info refers to deletion and I would prefer to dump them in a Work In Progress file just in case they end up being related after all at which time I know I can merge the record into my project file.
I have created a named list called WIP and I'm transferring the Orphan Groups block by block into the named list.
What I seem to be missing is how to get them into a new project, let's call it WIP , before deleting them from the main project.
Could anyone point me to any references I'm missing or suggest the best way to proceed?
Many thanks

Deleting a lot of orphans
First make a COPY of your Gedcom file. Then rename the copy 'WIP file', or whatever.
Then open this new WIP file and use
File > Split Tree Helper
Select the option to 'Delete all Individual records NOT found by the Individual query below'.
Then select the query called 'Named List Members'.
When you click Delete, you will be asked to select the named list. Choose your list called WIP.
All the records NOT in the named list will be deleted from the copy file, leaving just those WIP records you want to keep.

I guess following that I just repeat the process on my Project file but deleting the Named list members to remove them.LornaCraig said:....................................All the records NOT in the named list will be deleted from the copy file, leaving just those WIP records you want to keep.
Many thanks to both of you
