I have an ancestor who was registered as David Slingsby but for the most part of his life was called David Powell Slingsby. I put this down to him owning a Gunshop and his mothers name looked good on the sign. What is the best way to record this. The birth certificate was one of the last pieces of evidance to come to me, so I have called him DPS throughout so far.

You could use the Alternate name that can be found in the detail tab - if it is just one.
I've got a few people where the given names (number and spelling) and surnames (spelling) change quite frequently. So I've created two 'Name' attributes - one for an individual and one for a married couple - that I can assign names to a particular time and source (eg 1881 census)

Thanks. I have used a both the alternative name and a second name attribute to record when he started calling himself David Powell Slignsby.

Just go to the All tab and right click to add as many names as you want there.
