It is currently possible to have a diagram rooted on two people - so long as they are partners. However this is only possible by selecting the two individuals from within a diagram. It should be possible to select the partners in the record view window as well.
Currently if you want this type of diagram you have to choose one of the partners, generate the diagram, then re-select the two individuals and draw the diagram again. Considering that the program knows when two people are partners or not within the diagram (as the diagram buttons are grayed out unless the two individuals selected are partners) it should be easy for the program to ensure that the diagram buttons are NOT grayed out when two people who are partners are selected in the record view window.

OR in the Focus Window select the blue bar often displaying Marriage details below the partner's boxes.
OR when you select Charts change Tree Root Type to Couple and select the Root Couple.
Those options are all explained in FHUG Knowledge Base > View Both Spouses’ Ancestors in Diagrams that is mentioned in Key Features for Newcomers.
