I may not go through with this but I have an idea to send someone a small portion of my family tree, complete with source records and media, as a GEDCOM file.
In this way they could import it to their program and have all the information to hand to help with a conundrum I have but without my sending them everything separately or sending them my complete database.
Is this possible? If so how? Thanks.

That question poses several other questions...
What is 'their program' because not all programs handle GEDCOM as successfully as they should?
Do your Source Records use Source Templates? If so then few other programs will recognise them.
Do your Media use Face/Detail Frames to display a portion of the image? Other programs don't support that.
Also Place Records and Fact Witnesses may not be supported in 'their program'.
Have you considered posting the tree online on Ancestry, FindMyPast, or ZoomPast and grant the other person privileged access? One drawback is that Media is not supported.
One way to create a portion of your Project is to use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project and then in the copy use File > Split Tree Helper... or any other techniques to delete the records not wanted.
Finally use either the Export Gedcom File plugin for the GEDCOM Destination program/online family tree or the new Export Public GEDCOM File plugin.
See Exporting a Family Tree with/without Media for advice.

Thanks Mike.
Lots to think about there. I feel like I'm not going to go ahead with the idea but you've supplied useful information.

Re: Exporting a portion of a database complete with source media
My preferred option for creating sub-projects is to export a Gedcom using the normal export option to extract the needed individuals then import it into a new project allowing it to copy the media into the New Project folder.
The resulting folder will contain all the media linked to the exported gedcom, so it easier to then package rather than using the Split tree.
Of course Mike's caveats about other programs still apply.

Thank you Jane. That seems to be a good solution.
