Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
Yes, I will report it.
I am embarrassed that you have found so many problems with the FH direct import.

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
Thank you for reporting. By the way, they have my entire HBS2.fdb, which is the original file from Legacy.
I'm disappointed too.
I really wanted to get started with FH, but this completely stalls my process. I don't want to make a complete mess of my data.

As a new user, and the one having the issue, CP needs to hear from you. I highly doubt there's a hierarchy in place when people submit tickets. Mine have always been responded to quickly.
post@stegemueller.dk wrote: ↑17 Aug 2024 12:20 I'm glad you can confirm my findings.
I have been migrating for many years for a living.
Which one of us is reporting? They probably believe you more than me.

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
I have reported the missing Date Periods, Alternate Names, Name Sources, Marriage & other fact Sources, Research Notes, and Medical Notes all supported by Legacy Sample project examples where possible.
It is not easy for Hanne to give such examples as she has deleted the Sample project and her projects are in Danish.

Of course - that makes sense. Sleep-deprived here, so missed that important point... But I still stand by my statement that we should personally submit tickets. I used to shy away from it, but realize that assuming someone else will do it means the issue might go unaddressed and thus, unresolved.

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
Yes, but I have reported the errors I have found regarding ‘Direct import’ from Legacy.
In addition, Mike Tate and I have jointly realised that what looks correct in the demo file in Legacy does not always work in a real file.

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
I wrote to support and asked about the status, while explaining that I couldn't get started with FH as long as there are so many errors with direct import from Legacy. This would mean that I had some data in one place and some in another, and that mine wouldn't match.
I got this answer from support:
I'm sorry you feel annoyed. As I'm sure you appreciate, we get a great many requests for features and improvements. Everything we do takes time, and we have to prioritize.
You might wish to propose the features you want on the Family Historian Wish List (on the Family Historian User Group website). If others vote for these features too, that can only add weight to your request.
See this page for the Wish List: https://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wllist ... erseq=DESC
See this page for new requests: viewforum.php?f=43

I have now written the following reply to Martin
Dear Martin
Thank you for your response.
I'm sorry to say, but the things Mike Tate and I have pointed out several times (and you have gotten my entire Legacy file several times) cannot be attributed to a “Wish list”.
These are actual bugs in a genealogy program, while you write that the “wish list” is about “requests for features and improvements”. You don't sit and wish for the following, among other things:
Direct import from Legacy: Missing Date Periods reported by Mike Tate
Direct import from Legacy: Citations are not always shown in FH. I have already reported this. Mike Tate confirms this.
Direct import from Legacy: Sometimes the source is not there at all - though I'm very accurate documenting all facts. I have already reported this. Mike Tate confirms this.
Direct import from Legacy: Research Notes are not imported. I have already reported this. Mike Tate confirms this.
If you don't agree with this, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to cancel my purchase. It's a real shame, because I was really looking forward to working with FH, but I don't want to be in a situation where I lose track of 20 years of work. Then I'll have to stay with Legacy.
I hope you understand my problem and return my money as soon as possible if you do not recognize that there are actual errors.
Sincerely yours
Hanne B. Stegemüller

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
I agree with you that most of these Legacy direct import data omissions are bugs not features.
If a Legacy GEDCOM import is used instead then most of that data is imported correctly.
Alternate Names were imported directly in earlier FH versions but not now in FH V7.0.23.
The FH Support page https://www.family-historian.co.uk/supp ... acy-import implies that Names including "multiple names and titles", Events/Facts including Dates, Sources and Source Citations, and Notes are all imported.
There may be an argument that Research Notes and Medical Notes might be considered as Wish List features, but not the other omissions.
Do any other Legacy migrants have an opinion?

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
Hi Mike
My problem is that if I started working with FH now, I would lose track of what data I had there and what I had in Legacy. I would completely lose track of 20 years of research.
You write: “then most of that data is imported correctly”, which is a repetition of the problem where I would lose track. Which is imported correctly and which is not?
Surely there must be other Legacy users experiencing these issues.
FH is an expensive program, and I don't want to pay a relatively high amount of money for something that leaves me so unsure of my data and the relationship between them. In short, the errors we have found make me feel unsafe.

Re: Citations from Legacy are not shown in FH
I sympathise with your predicament.
Are there any other FHUG Legacy users for which these problems are a concern?
