When I scan images I scan at the highest dpi my scanner will do and save it outside of Family Historian. I then want to add it into FH and I save the media within the project but I don't want the original size as that is a large no. of MB. I need to resize/resample the image suitable for use within FH to use in reports and on screen.
If I need the original image for more than FH use I can retrieve that from my original media.
Is it better for me to resize by pixel, by size or by KB and if so what is the recommended setting. I will be using Irfanview but am a newbie to that software.
Thank you

Re: Media size
I use Irfanview and resize to 800 pixels on the longest edge i.e. portrait = 800 high or landscape = 800 wide.
That generates files that are about 500K in size and are perfect for me to store in FH and later export to a TNG website. If you have a different destination for your media, such as reports, you may choose something other than that size.
It doesn't really matter if you resize by cm, inches or pixels, the result will be the same. Experiment until you find a setting that works for you.
In the Resize/Resample dialog of Irfanview make sure the option "Preserve Aspect Ratio" is ticked or you may get distorted images.
