[Duplicate of Wish List Item 508]Portable or To-Go version of FH7

Post by mbsa.davidson »

I currently have FH7 but do not use it as I would like. I use RootsMagic because of an ability that FH7 does not have and that is RootsMagic-To-Go. This is a portable version of the software that one can put on a thumb drive or external SSD that allows you to use the software away from your computer. I currently have an external SSD that has my RootsMagic database and images on it along with a 'portable' version of RootsMagic. I can take this SSD to my local FamilySearch Center, plug in the drive and then run RootsMagic from the drive on the computers at the Center. I don't have a laptop and even if I did that would be a lot of work and room on the desk to have two computers.
The use of the SSD and the portable version, allows me to run the software with my database on the computers at the FamilySearch Center. When I find information, be it on FamilySearch, FindMyPast, Ancestry, etc, all I have to do is copy and paste the information into my database!
I realize that there is configuration within the Windows Registry and dll files are loaded elsewhere. But this doesn't have to be a requirement. There are many Windows programs that have "portable" versions of their software.

It would be a great improvement if we had the ability to run a portable version of FamilyHistorian from a thumb drive or SSD. This would especially be good for those who do not have a laptop to take to a place for research. It would allow one to look at their own research and reference it while searching elsewhere.

This is a duplicate of Running FH from a USB Stick so I am closing it. Please vote for the existing wish list item.
