Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
I'm looking at my imported data in a "Relations" diagram. As I'm just getting into using the diagrams and need to fully understand the implications of the symbology, is there a good FH7 video that will help?

All the videos I know about are linked from the KB here.

Thanks Helen. Unfortunately; there wasn't a video that specifically addressed the aspect on which I needed help.
However; in trying to locate something, Caroline O'Neill on the Family Historian Zoom Group suggested a document she had had prepared called, "Diagrams & Charts in Family Historian". It was definitely worth downloading and reading.

Gary, yes, I saw that. Have asked for permission to signpost it from the KB.
Edited to add: It's now available via A Primer on Using Diagrams and Charts

Gary, as a matter of interest, what Diagram feature did you need help with?

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
Mike;
I'm trying to get comfortable with how to use the diagrams to highlight potential cross-linking issues with my tree data and improve the overall presentation. I imported much of the tree from RM9, so there are sometimes latent issues that I couldn't easily spot prior to import. Now that I have the diagrams of FH7, I want to use them to full advantage.
I found a KB video by Jane that seems to use a version of FH that is older than v.7. That made it very difficult to understand what was being said and done. If you know of a more applicable one, please let me know.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
Sorry Gary, but I don't understand what you mean by "potential cross-linking issues with my tree data" and what you need to "improve the overall presentation". To me, those are very vague terms.
Diagrams have not fundamentally changed in several FH versions.
If you can specifically identify Jane's KB video I might be able to help.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
Mike;
The video, referenced from the KB, was a YouTube video by Jane Taubman. The name is, "Family Historian - using the All relatives Diagram" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlQZtZp9g_g. When I was trying to follow along, I had some difficulty locating the options and controls she mentioned. Then I noticed that the video was posted 10 years ago. I couldn't see a version number for FH, so the posting date made me think that it might not reflect the current FH7.
In the video she selects options and re-arranges the boxes to expose more info and to remove the dashed lines and boxes. This reflects the overall presentation that I want to improve.
If I had inadvertently had linked a person in RM9, because they had the same name as another person in my tree, I should be able to pick it out visually in this FH7 diagram (which RM9 does not have). This is the cross-linking to which I was referring. I've seen the issue in some imports of my French-Canadian lines, because names tend to get used over and over.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
Gary, if you go to Videos in the Knowledge Base and click through the title to an article, it will tell you which versions of FH a video applies to, if you want to avoid videos made for older versions. Bear in mind, a video is unlikely to be remade for V7 if most of what it shows is still valid even if the overall UI has changed somewhat.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
There are no significant changes to the All Relatives Diagram between FH V5 when the video was made and FH V7.
Some of the icons in the toolbar have changed but their functions have not.
At about 1:40 into the video, the process of inserting a Diagram for Julia Amanda FISH requires a right-click on the background to obtain the 'Insert Into Diagram' option and that is not very clear in the video.
However, that option is also available via the 'Diagram' command line menu.
The same applies to the removal of the coloured ribbon.
In FH V7 there is a new Charts > All Relatives + Indirect Relatives Diagram... which includes all such non-blood relatives without having to insert separate diagrams.
The Family Historian Sample Project has gained some more relatives in FH V7 so when trying to replicate the video you don't get quite the same effects. However, all the features are essentially just the same.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
Thanks, Helen and Mike.
I'm very much a visual learner. When I'm studying a video, sometimes small visual details throw me off for a moment and I miss a step. Almost wish I could slow down some of the videos to be able to see things before the person moves on to the next step. Pausing and restarting is not quite as good a solution for me.
All said and done, things are coming along with getting all the pieces to work together. I'm looking forward to when I can just sit down and enter data.

I understand. Slowing a YouTube video slows the voice as well and makes it unusabe.

Re: Recommendations on good video for FH7 Diagrams
I wonder if turning on captioning and slowing the video would stay in sync?
Might be a solution...
