Problem with Query using pool number

Post by Gowermick »

I modified an existing query, to exclude anyone not in Pool 1

i.e Exclude Unless RelationPool() equals 1

This has eliminated most of the relevant individuals, but insists on including 3 individuals who are shown as being in Pool 30!:-

Any suggestions?

Is that the only Rows tab filter expression? If not then maybe one of the other filter rows is to blame.
It would have been helpful to post the Rows tab as well as the Result Set to save us asking questions.

What is the Column expression for the Pool column?

BTW: How did you get the Pool column to display in red?

Mike,
I didn't include all the row expressions because apart from 1st expression, they are all exclude statements, so the resultset gets slowly narrowed down, so no chance of adding a rogue Pool with them. Nevertheless, I have taken a snapshot for you to look at.

As for the Red pool number, that was done by FH, and nothing I did :D

BTW, I'd be interested to know why it doesn't filter out the non J custom ID's also, see P30 etc in first attachment

There appear to be several issues so it might be best to attach your Query here so I can review everything.

Use the ATTACHMENTS tab and ADD FILES.
Then browse to C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Custom to select and open your custom query.

Then browse to C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Custom to select and open your custom query.
Why just not use File> Import/Export > Export > Query?

Because that takes several more (unnecessary IMO) steps and Mike has to remember where he saved the export in order to attach it here.

Well, we'll have to agree to differ about that. IMO it's quicker to use the export, when you've got FH open in front of you, than to navigate down to the Custom Queries folder.

And as a seasoned FH user I'm sure he knows how to choose where to save it and would be able to remember (only a few seconds later) where he saved it. :D

I think we are talking at cross purposes. After using ATTACHMENTS and ADD FILES he will have to browse/navigate into the PC filing system anyway. So IMO it is just as quick to navigate to C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\... as to wherever the exported Query is saved, and he saves the time of using the Export command.

Lorna and Mike,
for what its worth, I have attached the query file as you suggested

.
1921 Census Possibles.fhq
(2.09 KiB) Downloaded 51 times
BTW Pool 30 and ID P30 seem to have disappeared frommthe resultset

This is all a digression, so we shouldn't really dwell on it, but I would simply save the exported file to the desktop, drag and drop into the reply window, then click Place Inline. No navigation necessary.

Don’t forget that the ProgramData folder is hidden by default, so I think Lorna’s method is preferred for the general user (and is consistent with the FH documentation). If they are familiar with the minutiae of what FH saves where, they can choose the alternative method.

Gowermick: I have run your query and it seems to work as it should. I note that you say “BTW Pool 30 and ID P30 seem to have disappeared from the result set” so are you saying it is now working correctly for you?

I notice that in the query you posted here the Custom ID column is before the Pool number column, which is the opposite way round from your original screenshot. Also the Pool numbers are not in red. Are you sure you posted the same query?

Lorna,
How the columns got swapped around, I don't remember changing them, and the Custom ID filters now works as they should!! Totally weird behaviour

BTW My pool numbers are still showing in Red

NB I have restarted FH since I originally posted, so I do wonder if that sorted everying out - I do hate it when that happens

Mike, after changing the Rows or Columns tabs you must run the Query again to update the Result Set tab.
So maybe you added those last two Row filters and swapped some Columns but had not run the Query when you posted the Result Set.

I think the Pool numbers and Born years are red because you have customised the Query colours.
i.e. Tools > Preferences... > Query Window > Colours... and set Ordinary Text to red.
