Hello to all,
Maybe the answer is given elsewhere, but I haven't seen it:
How can I move or copy all my external media to the media file of the project
Thank you for your help

Transfer external media in project
I started with Reunion 30 yrs ago, later TMG.
I now use FH as my main software, TNG and MyHeritage to share my data.
Transkribus to decipher old texts.
Genealogica Grafica, The Complete Genealogy Builder and My Family Tree to view and check my data.

You can just Move it on your HDD to wherever you wish and then run the Auto Repair Links which is available under Tools < External File Links
I note you have been doing a lot of renaming, I would advise completing that task to your satisfaction first.

Just to be clear, use Windows File Explorer (or similar) to Move (not Copy) the files to wherever you want.
That can be into any subfolders of the Project's ...fh_data\Media\ folder but keep the filenames the same.
If you use Copy instead of Move or change the filenames then Auto Repair Links will not work.
That is because it only repairs broken links and if you Copy the files the links don't get broken.
There may also be problems if you have identical filenames held in different folders because it relies on matching filenames regardless of folder paths.

Re: Transfer external media in project
Hello Mike.
When I import a gedcom file with existing media links, FH proposes to import all the media files into the Media directory of the new project. Is a similar function not available after the import? What if I export my data through gedcom and reimport them ? Do I lose data ?
Regards,
Olivier

Re: Transfer external media in project
No, there is not a similar bulk Media file moving function after the import.
Although a plugin could be written to do that.
No, you won't lose any data if you choose the correct options.
However, when you re-import the GEDCOM it is almost certain that all the files will get imported to the Media folder without any folder structure.
There are ways to get the Media folder structure to be imported but it relies on that structure starting in the same folder as the GEDCOM file. To organise that when files exist in various locations requires Windows File Explorer.

Re: Transfer external media in project
Thank you. I exported my project in Gedcom and reimported it, and I was able to import all the external media to the media directory of the project. So I could apply the "Rename selected media files" plugin without impacting media files outside the project folder.
Thank you for your advice in this, Mike, again.
