Options for 'How Related Report'
In the How Related dialogue box, I have selected the two people I need in the report, and am trying to work out what the various options do, but 'Show Life Dates' seems to do nothing! There is no help button on the dialogue box to explain the options, and despite a quick look at the knwledgebase, nothing there either, unless I missed it.
What am I missing?

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
I would have thought all the options were fairly obvious.
Show life dates simply shows or hides life date in the result box.
Show record ids include the record ids in the output box.
Blood relationships only shows relationships by blood so your Mother not your Mother in Law
Max Relationships maximum number of different relationships to show for the two people selected.

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
Jane, it ought to be obvious, but in fact ‘show life dates’ doesn’t change the report one iota. In my experience, life dates are shown regardless of this option being enabled or disabled, hence the post

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
The Show Life Dates button and the Show Record Ids button both affect what is shown in the box immediately above them, which gives the summary of the relationship. However, I agree that they don't affect the contents of the report. Maybe they should. It might be worth raising that with CP.

The display options on the selection are not passed to the report other than the records, you can turn off the dates for the report in the report options.

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
Pardon my ignorance, but aren’t these choices the report options? What other options are there and where are they?

That makes more sense I’ll raise it with CPLornaCraig wrote: ↑07 Sep 2023 09:57 The Show Life Dates button and the Show Record Ids button both affect what is shown in the box immediately above them, which gives the summary of the relationship. Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
Yes, they are the report options. What Jane said makes sense, but I can see why you expected the options in the How Related dialog to control the report. Maybe what's needed is a note at the bottom of the dialog saying "use report options to control exact report content".

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
Should that also apply to the Display Graphically... option?

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
To be honest I think it’s easier if the How Related options only apply to the display in the How Related dialog itself. There are so many options for a graphic display, just within text schemes alone. The How Related tool could have just four simple text schemes to use (with/without dates and with/without IDs) but many users would want to use their own text scheme with their own selection of facts displayed.
At present the tool generates a graphic display with all the user’s own default diagram settings, which I’m happy with. Similarly, the user can save their own settings for the report. That only has to be done once.

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
I meant the note at the bottom of the dialogue that you proposed should include the Diagram as well as the Report.

Re: Options for 'How Related Report'
Support ticket #142386 has been raised. Primarily to supply a Help button to this dialogue box to explain what the various options apply to, (along with reason for the scroll bar on right).
I've left it to CP to decide if the option button could apply to report (or Graphics) at same time, but I think that would be expecting too much. Personally, I'd be happy with a Help button to explain everything, rather than leaving us guessing
