FH and Dropbox Backup

Post by BrianNW »

I have used the dropbox backup feature and I now find that I do not have access to any of my Family Historian projects. I do not know what I have done wrong.
Please can anyone point me in the right direction?

Can you give us some clues about how you use Dropbox.
i.e. explain how you have configured your use of Dropbox.

Do you just copy the Family Historian Projects folder to the Dropbox folder from time to time?

OR have you moved the Family Historian Projects folder into the Dropbox folder permanently?

In this latter case, what does the File > Project Window > Location path say?
Does it say My Documents\Family Historian Projects or does it refer to ...\Dropbox\Family Historian Projects?

Hello Mike
Sorry for the slow reply.

I used the Backup facility that Dropbox offers - imagining that there would be a Restore facility if I needed it!

It appears that I have moved my projects to Dropbox permanently.

The File > Project Window > Location path refers to ...\Dropbox\Family Historian Projects
(In fact all files in the ..Documents folder and the .. Downloads have this path)
I think I might have switched on smart sync within Dropbox.

Hope this helps

So when you say you do not have access to any Family Historian projects, is the File > Project Window empty?

Using Windows File Explorer, does the folder ...\Dropbox\Family Historian Projects\ exist?
Does it contain any of your Project folders?

Hello Mike

Family Historian does not have access any Family Historian projects.

Using Windows File Explorer, I do have access to the folder ...\Dropbox\Family Historian Projects\ and no it is not empty. All the project files are there but FH will not load them.

The full path to the Documents folder is C:\Users\Brian\Dropbox\My PC (BriansLaptop) and the full path to Family Historian Projects.

Try changing the File > Project Window > Location path to C:\Users\Brian\Dropbox\Family Historian Projects
i.e. The full path to wherever the Family Historian Projects folder exists within the Dropbox folder.
