Installing on a netbook using CD-backed installer

Post by hsw » 12 Apr 2010 11:53

I'm trying to install FH V4 on a netbook running Windows 7 (which is replacing my old laptop).

My installation trail starts with a very old CD (v2.1.8) which requires the CD-backed installer to work. Although I've mapped a DVD-drive to drive E: over the network (from my main PC) the CD-backed installer says it can't find a CD-drive so the installation fails.

Any suggestions? I'm raising a support request direct with calico pie as well...

Can you borrow a USB CD drive from anyone?

Nobody that I know of, unfortunately.

Calico pie support are referring the issue to the developers, but I suspect it's a minority problem, so I don't expect a quick fix. My best option may be to buy the full version 4.

The other option would be to buy a USB CD drive, Amazon have them from £12.99.

USB External Slim CDROM Drive

or a DVD drive from £26

It might be the right option for somebody else, but for the use I would get from it (there is nothing else I need to load on the netbook that needs a CD drive) I might as well spend the money on simplifying my FH installation process...
