* On Hold until 13 Dec 2024: Diagram Format Dialogue Box

For Wish List Requests that need more work before they can be progressed to the Wish List, because after 3 months, discussions have not arrived at a clear specification of the requirement such that one or more Wish List items can be raised. Items On Hold that are not subsequently refined to a state suitable for the Wish List within a year by the OP or other interested parties will be closed. If the OP feels unable to progress the request, they should ask for volunteers among other interested users to assist.

On Hold until 13 Dec 2024: Diagram Format Dialogue Box

Post by Gowermick »

When in design mode in a new diagram, it would be useful to have the option to have the Format Dialogue Box permanently visible, so that one can quickly edit the element currently highlighted.

With a potential for a multitude of text boxes in a single Diagram, it is not very user friendly having to Open the Format box for an element, make a small change then have to Close the Format box, before proceeding to next element to be edited.

The current process to edit the Relation Expression for each element in a Diagram is
1. Click on Text box to select it
2. Right Click on Box and select Format...
3. Click on Data Tab (Dialog box alway open on Text Tab)
4. Edit Relation Expression
5. Click OK
Repeat process for next Text box.

With Format permanently open with last Tab used (i.e. Data) open, the process becomes
1. Click on Text box to select it
2. Edit Relation Expression
3. Click OK

You could simply turn on Select by clicking icon then select all the boxes and then select format and change them all at once if you want the same scheme on all of them, with just different data references.

Jane,
I do that for global changes, but not possible for entering Relationship expressions, where each one is different. :D

That’s what prompted the post, having to go through 30+ boxes getting the expression right for each box - a pain in the proverbial!

This was raised nearly 3 years ago, but didn't receive any support/discussion. Is there any support?

I use diagrams a lot but I'm struggling to understand what type of diagram the OP is discussing.

Is it one of the standard diagram types into which he has inserted "a multitude of text boxes"?
Why do they all need (different) Relationship Expressions?

Is it a Fan Chart, where every box is in fact a text box?
Why would you need to change the relationships?

An example would help.

Putting this on hold for the requirement to be clarified by OP.
