Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
Would it be too much trouble to add support for Gedkeeper ? It runs nicely on Linux and is (IMHO) somewhat more intuitive than Gramps. It also has an Android version, which I have not tried yet.
It has a couple of interesting custom tags Research "RS# _Research" and Tasks "TK# _Task". Notes can be attached to Research and Tasks and Tasks can be attached to Research. I'm thinking the research could be mapped to FH's Research Notes
Thanks.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
I assume you are referring to my 'Export Gedcom File' plugin?
For what purposes do you envisage using GEDKeeper?
e.g. Why would you want to duplicate the Research Notes from FH?
You can experiment with the plugin options to see what works best with GEDKeeper and let me know the results.
i.e. GEDKeeper claims compliance with GEDCOM 5.5.1 so perhaps start with the plugin GEDCOM Destination:
(CEB) Custom Export Bravo GEDCOM 5.5.1 which moves FH Research Notes to GEDCOM Note Records.
It would take me some time starting from scratch, so the more assistance you can give the better.
Unfortunately, tags Research "RS# _Research" and Tasks "TK# _Task" don't look like GEDCOM format tags.
So I would need more details to even start investigating in that direction.
However, I don't understand the purpose of migrating that data to GEDKeeper.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
Not an application that I am familiar with, but I set it up on my Linux box to see how it managed importing the generic GEDCOM file and media from the draft Export Public GEDCOM File plugin.
Basic tree data seemed ok, but it didn't support importing the media. It creates OBJE records ok, but seems to use a non-standard custom version of the FILE tag. As a result, it couldn't find any of the imported media files, even after I converted all the FILE tags to their native path.
I don't plan on spending any more time on it.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
I have a netbook that is considerably more convenient for travelling and of course has a keyboard, but it runs Linux which I'm fine with. Because of the two-machine limit of the FH licence, I wanted something to refer to my FH database (not edit) and also have access to my Research Notes. The CEB export seems to work well enough. I noted Mark1834's comment about media, but that is not an issue for me.
The only wrinkle seems to be I cannot get a summary of all my Research Notes on one screen. I could attach them all to the Research tab in GedKeeper, but I would have to do this individually each time I updated the Gedcom.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
Sorry, but you'll have to explain in more detail.
Is the problem that you have lots of other Note Records that are supplemented with Note Records derived from the converted FH Research Notes?
If not that then why does attaching them to the GEDKeeper Research tab make them fit on one screen?
After attaching them to the Research tab can you export GEDKeeper to GEDCOM and show me what the GEDCOM tags look like for them. Then can I imagine how the FH Research Notes might be converted.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
In FH the regular Notes are summarised on the Notes tab and the Research Notes have their own separate tab. It is similar in Gedkeeper, is just that the program does not recognise FH's Research Notes as a type.
I will create some dummy data illustrating how they work in Gedkeeper and export to a Gedcom.
Thanks.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
In the exported GEDCOM from FH the derived Note Records all start with a dedicated label.
e.g. Research Note: or Source Template:
So unless you have a great many original Note Records, sorting the GEDKeeper Notes list should group all the Research Notes together. Why is that not satisfactory?

Here is a small Gedcom with some example Notes, Task and Research.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
OK, so how would you expect FH Research Note records to map onto GEDKeeper Research & Note records?
I cannot see any way FH data maps into GEDKeeper Tasks.
e.g.
Presumably 1 NOTE @N2@ would link to a Note Record holding the FH Research Note text.
What would be entered into the following GEDKeeper Research record tags:
1 _STARTDATE
1 _STOPDATE
1 NAME
1 _PRIORITY
1 _STATUS
1 _PERCENT

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
I can see this is a challenge. I think any mapping is going to be a compromise. '_RESEARCH' and '_TASK' are really different to any objects in FH.
The way this might work is to map both '_RESEARCH' RS# and '_TASK' TK# to Research Notes in FH. Any notes attached to the RS# or TK# records would need to be applied to the FH Research Note text. The fields _STARTDATE, _STOPDATE, _PRIORITY, _STATUS, _PERCENT don't really map so well since if we used them they would be labelled text at the top of the note text area. NAME I guess could be mapped to FH Title?

You seem to be discussing how to map GEDKeeper records when importing into FH Research Note records.
Whereas this thread is discussing the opposite direction of exporting FH Research Notes to GEDKeeper, which is what you requested initially.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
Mike, you are quite correct, of course.
I think the route from FH to Gedkeeper is a little more straightforward.
I would map FH Research Notes to GK Tasks. The body of the FH Research Note becomes a GK Note attached to the Task TK# in Gedkeeper. The _GOAL in GK needs to be populated with the words "General Research".
I don't think we can use the Research items in GK.
