* Export Gedcom File - plugin [Solved]

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Export Gedcom File - plugin [Solved]

Post by Gowermick »

MikeTate
I used your plugin to export an Ancestry gedcom, and following the advice given, did not choose to look at exported file in FH, but chose 'Close memo' instead - BUT it still opened the exported Gedcom file in FH.

Is this supposed to happen? and does this action corrupt file as you have warned?

PS Where can one select which individuals to export? - Sorted, export selected individuala to gedcom first, open in a new copy of FH, THEN run plugin.- simples

UPDATE The exported file imported to Ancestry ok

No, if you choose Close Memo then the Plugin exported GEDCOM should NOT open in FH.
I cannot explain how that would happen, so can you try again and see if it is repeatable.
( BTW: The original File > ... Export > GEDCOM File FH version will remain open. )
As long as FH is only open fleetingly (less than the Autosave interval) and you do NOT Save on Exit, then the GEDCOM file should not get corrupted. The most likely corruption is the re-creation of Place records.

See the plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file|> Export Gedcom File Plugin page, which is also available via the Plugin Help & Advice button, explains about using associated tools.

See also how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia#export_to_website_without_sensitive_data|> Export to Website Without Sensitive Data that offers advice about publishing online trees.

Mike,
Yes it does open exported file in FH, but in a query window, not as a project - my mistake. I just saw the GEDCOM appear on the screen, and didn't realise it wasn't a project.

That is NOT a GEDCOM file, but a Plugin Result Set (similar to a Query Result Set) summarising the conversion rule details as explained in plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:result_set|> Export Gedcom File ~ Result Set.
